We had the worst weather last Friday as we planned to leave Montreal for Quebec City. All day, a mix of rain, heavy winds and freezing rain, + a 25-35 cm snow forecast in Quebec City :G. The 4 of us left on Sat am and enjoyed the day out in the 1st snowfall of the season In Quebec City.
APF played in front of a crowd fairly estimated to 6000 extremely enthousiastic fans.
It was the 1st time that I listen to Jamie's guitar playing and he does a remarquable job on lead guitar. I had previously read on his site, that he only had some 3 weeks to prepare for the tour, learning all those bits and pieces that Steve_Mac played before. I was pleased and amazed by his brilliant solo performed during the jam on Bricks, amongst others.
What struck me was how confident, up forward and mean bass playing Ian performs and does a great job covering Roger and Dave's vocals. It was apparent, not only in all if not the majority of the songs but when he especially did Learning to Fly , I just closed my eyes for a min, and swear it was David, he does add that caracteristic raunchy feel to it. My friend and I looked at each other and were thumbs up. Nobody Home was particularely refreshing and amusing, comfortably sitting in a chair and lamp on stage.
The classics Time, BD/Eclipse, Us & Them, performed with such ease and fluidity. I was not at all expecting Sheep which enflammed the audience thruout the end of the 1st set in standing ovation, for which Jason kindly informs the crowd it's Tea Time. As usual, the ladies back up singing performed by Emely, Jackie and Ola, whom again, performed sensationnably aka Clara on GGITS. Ladies, Bravo to the 3 of you.
A note on Paul's new Drum set, great sounding and Gareth does tune the knobs make it stand out kicking thru the PA. Damian nails the solos with perfection, knocked out a perhaps 10,000th comfy solo to a superb end, and it was refreshing to see him in the middle of the stage, sitting down and playing the slide guitar during One of these days. The reason for dual mic'ing the vocal and talk box is due to different types of mics used which allows Gareth to set their own specific EQs accordingly Damian explained. The tube is present Damian assures but very well camouflaged.
Jason adressed the crowd at the end of comfy, saying to the crowd that it has been the 4th time they visit Quebec, that it was the best crowd and always great to be here. The crowd roared back in applause. I got positive feedback from the members I talked to, I noticed the crowd was very appreciative and demonstrated their true love for the Band with desevred many ovations. It was my 1st trip to see APF in QC, and definitely will attend both Mtl and QC in the future. A big boost in energy the ladies backup singers commented to our dear Mrs's
A great end.
After Show
We were kindly offered for an after show meet up by Damian, but at the same we were anxious about the prospect of invading a well deserved privacy.
Damian made us at ease right away and soon, the ladies chitchatted together with the ladies signers while my friend , myself embarqued in some funny and unforgettable topics with Damian, Mike, Ian and Gareth. It ended we were all recollecting and sharing our love and passion for the early progressive bands from UK and especially the brilliant music performed by the Schulman Bros, Gentle Giant. Wish you all well in the Maritimes followed by a Gentle trip back to Montreal for another Giant performance.
We had a wonderfull time and Thanks to all of you.
