I received a 'flyer' in the post at the weekend regarding the forthcoming gig at Brighton on the 30th April. I guess I got it because I saw the corresponding gig last year and the venue is touting for business (although I already have my tickets).
It clearly came from the Brighton Centre although it has an APFS logo on it and it is written as though it came from the band, starting with the obligatory "G'day" and ending with the signatures and printed names of Damian, Jason, Steve, Colin and Paul (in that order).
I'm not getting too worked up about it because it can only be a marketing ploy I reckon. But it has intrigued me. For all the previous gigs that I've bought tickets for I've never seen anything like this. The interesting part is the content of this 'letter'. Here's an extract:-
"We've totally updated the show for 2007 and can't wait to play again.
And to make things even better, we've also updated the state-of-the art sound system and lights production, including lasers and original Pink Floyd inflatables. We now also employ original Floyd crew-members working behind the scenes! With all this in place it's easy to see why we provide the perfect embodiment of the Floyd live experience. The last year has been incredible for us, a great UK arena tour, an amazing trip round the States and now this spectacular tour." (They left out any reference to Canada - not me!!)
So, does "totally updating the show" refer to a radically overhauled set list - aka the last NA tour? Do the signatories give some clue as to what the band line up for the UK tour will be? Was this 'letter' even sent with the knowledge and approval of the band and or CMP?
As I've already alluded, I'm not taking it too seriously, but it has intrigued me.
