I've seen the band at the Norwich 'University Of East Anglia' many times now and during this time, the show has improved, grown and got better each time. It really is time for them to move on from here and find a bigger venue in this part of the country. Don't get me wrong, the gig was awesome, despite being the shortest set yet on this tour. A fantastic atmosphere, but Jesus was it a crush and incredibly hot and sweaty! My other half had to go out as did a couple of others near us to get a breather, but I was going nowhere!
The venue really is too small for their show now, no Mr.Screen so all the projections are on a white sheet hanging across the back wall of the stage. Despite this, I would wager still the best show you will see from any band that visits the UEA, albeit with a reduced amount of lights, lasers and effects!
We did not have 'Nobody Home' ( no room for the chair on stage), no 'Sheep' or 'Pigs' and only one song for an encore (No 'Hey You'). We did have an inflatable (sort of!) and we did have a glitter ball (sort of!) More anon. There was not even room for all 11 band members to come together for their farewell bow at the endl! I did ask for the set list but someone else beat me to it. The guy on the mixer told me they had to do a shorter set and miss out those songs because of 'stage space'.
Here's the set list:
Shine On 1-5
Learning to Fly
Money
Us & Them
On The Turning Away
Gunner's Dream
Take It Back
Brain Damage/Eclipse
( Steve announced the intermission by saying 'Jesus it's f****** hot in here!' and we got 'bunch' of Floyd.
At this point I was already at the bar to beat the crush)
Astronomy
What Do You Want From Me
Time
Great Gig
Set the Controls
Wish You Were Here
One of These Days
Bricks 2
Comfortably Numb
Run Like Hell
I keep saying to friends who have only seen them at the UEA they must venture further afield to see the full show. However the crowd went crazy last night, the sound was spot on ( perhaps the bass a touch too loud) and everyone was happy despite the uncomfortable conditions.
I have about 30 photos here, so I'll post them as thumbs - just click on them for the bigger version:
As you can see, no screen, projections on the back wall, two rows of lights above the band across the width of the stage and a single laser out front.

Mike had an inflatable on his Sax stand! It later made an appearance jumping up and down behind Steve's stack during OOTD, to much laughter from Colin once the track had finished!

Personally I prefer Amy's singing of 'Great Gig' over Ola, however both are brilliant!

It was at this point I thought what will they do to replace the glitter ball? Simple, show a projection of one!

Run Like hell. A different intro, Damian doing his usual brilliant solo with Ian screaming over him 'Is there anybody weak in the house tonight?'
very Roger like!

Finally, to show how small this place is, I took this standing at the front (by the side of the stage) looking back. You can see the sound desk fenced off.
The areas at the back beyond the steps (under the low roof) were packed too around all three sides, right back to the bar (You can see the shutters down on it). It was even hotter back there! When I have been back there, to the bar for example, you cannot see a thing of the stage, due to the low roof and bodies infront, I wonder if those who arrived later ( I was there when the doors opened), and did not find a place around the 'pit', felt they got value for money?
