Larry showed me the 2004 Pops DVD on Monday and in particular CWTAE.  I was VERY impressed with the performance and wondered if they might consider putting it back into the set list at some point? Wadda you reckon boys?

  I think the band got fed up with playing CWTAE also I believe somebody was getting a bad throat from over performing it.

Yes, I put the question to Damian in 2006 as to why they weren't playing it any more and he groaned and said "because we always play it".

When Roger performed the song live he had an effect on his mic which created the screaming noise.  He didn't actually make that noise - all he had to do was just loosely shout into the mic to get it.  There are a couple of bootlegs from 1971 where you can hear the shouting just before the scream kicks in where someone forgot to turn the effect on.  On the DVD Damian appears to be making the noise himself and I agree that can't be doing his throat any good.

It must be possible to produce that screaming noise without shredding your throat to pieces.

It's a brilliant piece isn't it Lorna - one of my favourites actually. I remember the band playing it at the Fairfield Halls in Croydon, probably 2004. It closed the first half of the set and before he said "grab a beer, bunch of floyd" etc., Steve Mac said "what a fantastic piece of music that is", which I guess means that he is quite partial to it as well. I also recall seeing the aussies playing it a couple of times, must have also been 2004, when there was no scream at all, either from Damian or produced by other means, which kind of emphasise the difficulties I suppose.

I for one hope it appears in the set list again before too long. I'm sure my good friend bigdog has not forgotten the rendition given by the band in Malta 2005 - bloody fantastic it was.
