So I figured since I've had some pretty spectacular moments, others have as well. I'll share some of mine, and you do the same.
*******************************************************************************************************
2005- Boston, MA Orpheum Theater- My 1st Aussie Floyd experience was simply amazing. I arrived to the show a little late. Never the less, I walked into the Orpheum Theater, which probably holds less then 2,000; to hear the opening of The Dark Side of the Moon. I was very surprised as to what I saw. A small room, dark like town with only candles burning, with a huge hanging disco ball radiating off each wall, fog floating across the room like a warm summer nights mist, and laser lights shooting out from all different directions. I sat in my seat and began to melt into awe. Unfortunately, I couldn't see Damian for the whole show because there was a HUGE speaker in my way. Besides that sucking, the rest of the show was amazing. Ian was flawless on bass/vocals and Steve Mac was just Steve Mac. You could call him Steve Mac Gilmour, he was that good. When he pulled out the slide guitar, everyone froze. It was like the lord almighty pushed the pause button to his favorite TV show...life. Every note was perfect and the sound could not be replicated unless it was by Gilmour him self. End of Dark Side. Other great songs like Shine On, WYWH, Machine. You think they are done? Yea right. Back out for In The Flesh and Run Like Hell. Everyone was going crazy as the show ended. I headed home still in awe, it was like seeing the real Floyd.
2006- Boston, MA Agganis Arena. Perhaps the best memories of my life. I wasn't late this time, you can be sure of that. When the tickets went on sale, I moved so fast to buy them I somehow got front row, center stage. DEAD CENTER. I almost had to wear a diaper. We sat down and were in shock as to how close we were. Literally like 5 feet from the stage. 8:15 the light go out. DoOW DOOW DOW DOOWWWWW Shine On begins. Out come the ladies, followed by Kidson, and then Ian Cattell,.Next came Humphries, who looked like a slimmed out taller Steve Mac. He busted into the beginning solo, which he really nailed. Thats not Steve!! I said in dissapointment, but he's still sick. Then, out comes Damian, sets up right in front of me and gives me this look like "I hope your ready for this." He starts playing like I've never known he could play. For this show, Damian was the lead. I have never had such a chill down my spine. Every song, every tone, every note could be felt. It could also be felt in my body because the speakers were right in front of me, but they were not loud, the sound was perfect. Throughout the show Damian and Ian would look over to me and my 3 friends, and we would stand up and just give them the best ovation, and they would just smile. The whole show was incredible, too incredible to get into with more detail, but after the main set, I stood up and saluted Ian, he gave me a nod and tossed me his pick. It was unreal. I had floated over to the dark side of the moon. They come back out, and Damian tosses his pick to my buddy. I didn't go for it cuz I thought he would, but he thought I was gonna, so we both watched it roll across the floor until someone else picked it up. My other buddy then saluted the female singers and they smiled and waved. The band walked off stage as the show ended and we stood in amazement as we listened to Skippy. Probably the best night I've ever had.
And there you have it, my 1st 2 Aussie Floyd experiences. 3 more to follow this year, with 1 in Boston having 11 row floor seats, and the one in NH having front row center stage seats, again. If this year can be topped by last year, this band deserves to be as big as the real Floyd. Thanks for the memories Aussie, and continue the legacy!
