TOPIC: Austin Show

Austin Show 4 years, 6 months ago #1

Did anyone notice that the Austin Show has been moved to the Majestic?  I was all prepared to go to Music Hall but AussieFloyd.com says that it has been moved.

Ticketmaster said that you can exchange your tickets m-f 12-5pm

I hope everyone makes it there ok.

If anyone has new info I would love it as I am driving from Dallas and would hate to end up in the wrong place.

Unless I'm mistaken, which I usually am, it's the San Antonio show that's at The Majestic. The Austin Show has moved to the Paramount.

Welcome to the forum Jen.

It's a bit overdue...but I did say I would post a review of the Austin show that my wife and I made the trip to see. Overall...a great show. Unfortunately we did miss the first fifteen minutes of it due to the Texas Department of Transportations decision to do road construction all the way up and down the 210 mile stretch from here to Austin. Traffic...needless to say...was HORRIBLE!!

But upon finally arriving at the venue...we got our tickets from the will call window and proceeded to be seated. Just as our butts hit the seats...they cranked up "Great Gig in the Sky". Another outstanding performance from Amy and Ola. The rest of the Dark Side set was played and the band I do believe got a standing ovation at the end of the first set.

As per the usual...the second set started with Shine On and was looking to be identical to the same setlist in Dallas. But then right after "Wish You Were Here"...they surprised me by finishing up Shine on with parts 6 - 9. It sounded fantastic. The rest of the show was the same as Dallas...and still just as fantastic as one could have ever hoped that it would be. Damian and Jamie were absolutely on tonight. They didn't miss a note. If they did...I sure didn't notice it. And Ian's voice seemed to be in top form. I am still stunned at how well he can sing. I think he does many of the songs better than the original band does (feel free to crucify me for this comment if you must...but I still hold fast to this opinion).

As for the venue itself...the Paramount theater is beautiful. Quite a great place to hold a show. Unfortunately it's a bit small. Needless to say Skippy nor the Pig made an appearance in Austin. Also missing was the large half oval backdrop that resembled the set of Pink Floyd's 1994 Pulse Tour Set. Trust me when I tell you...it wasn't missed. Mr. Screen and the other excess lights in the house more than made up for it. The light show was just superb and the laser show seemed to be a bit bigger than it was in Dallas. I think they used them a little more heavily in Austin.

Overall...what a gig!! I savored and drank in as much of that show as I possibly could. Took several great pictures of the show and a couple of fun ones backstage. My wife and I did get the priviledge of chatting with the band again in Austin after the show. I still say they are one of the greatest and most personable groups of guys I've ever had the pleasure of speaking with. Hope to chat with them again next year when they come back to Dallas or back to Texas period.

My biggest and most heartfelt thanks to the band for allowing us to spend time with them at both shows. Both nights were more than outstanding. My wife and I can't wait to see you all again next year.
