Our visit to Preston Guild Hall on Friday to enjoy yet another TAPFS gig was without doubt the best concert experience I have ever had. Considering I have seen this band many times in the past that is saying something. We see time and time again where a review says they just keep getting better but it is true.
This was our first visit to the Guild Hall and it is a modern venue with comfortable seating and an intimate atmosphere, the only downside was that the size prevented the appearance of the pig and Skippy. The crowd were a little subdued at first but that was because they were really lapping up the experience, and this is the first time that I have not been disturbed by the bar and toilet brigade.
We were sat quite close to the mixing deck and the sound was awesome, loud but crystal clear. It was just over a week ago that we saw them in Cardiff but it was great to pick up on things we missed the first time. The highlights were many but to pick just a few were Mike’s performance on Sax, the girls rendition of Great Gig, which was without doubt the best ever, and Set The Control’s For The Heart of The Sun, the Aussies version of this is now my all time favourite song and just the sheer power of all the band.
The crowd who were reserved and appreciative at first were up on their feet and cheering loudly as the gig was coming to a close and I think everyone realised they had just witnessed a very special concert and at just £24.50 per ticket it must go down as the best value show in the world. We have just two days to get over it before our trip to the Royal Albert Hall on Monday and I cannot wait. Thank you to all involved with TAPFS for presenting this special music in such wonderful way.
The icing on the cake was meeting the new arrival, Euan, who is a very handsome little fellow and seeing the beaming smiles on Helen Claire and Ian’s faces. And not forgetting Gareth, (Raikeswood) who last I saw was trying to retrieve his car from the locked car park.
There's not much I can add to that review, Phil. What a brilliant night! I did finally find a way into the almost deserted multi-storey car park, buzzing with all the excitement of the evening. With the roads so empty, I was back home in 50 minutes. I just loved it all, but particularly the songs that I hadn't heard them play before - Mother, The Thin Ice, Goodbye Blue Sky ...
Looking forward to seeing you (and the Aussies) again in the Summer.
