TOPIC: Cliffs Pavillion Southend

Cliffs Pavillion Southend 4 years ago #1

Fifth year in a row, and yet another amazing night of the greatest music.  My favorite song and I have stated this clearly on both Facebook and Myspace since last year in both the forum's and to anyone else who I get on to the subject, was the Great Gig In The Sky, the man next to termed it perfectly when he said goosebumps stuff.  Those girls were in every way awesome, and I truly believe it is Aussie Floyd's finest track.

Damian & Steve left me spellbound and the solo in set the controls was electrifying.

All the classics were there, and it was great to hear sheep, Learning to fly, money  wish you were here and of course comfortably numb.

When people ask me why I love the Floyd so much, the answer is the high emotions they take me too in their music, Well once again the Aussie Floyd took me there again, thank you so much, you have reminded me of what a real 'Love's music is all about.
Please please please play faithless

Yes, a wonderful evenings entertainment at the Cliffs Pavilion - my 2nd year to see the band there.

This year they took all the seats out from the Stalls area, so increasing the capacity of the venue from 1,600 to 2,250 with standing room only in this area. This really helped the atmosphere with the audience really up for it right from the start. Steve Mac commented that they really like playing in Southend - they get "good vibes" from the crowd and "everyone is there with a beer in their hand, just like back in Oz".

They started up at 7.35 and finished up at 10.25. It was the usual set list and I noticed particularly tonight that they put so much effort into the show - you get a top performance every time with this band.  All the songs were well received with TGGITS and Comfortably Numb receiving particularly prolonged applause.

Skippy took the night off this time, so we had an inflatable free and baby free night.

Also I noticed tonight that Damian plays keyboards during TGGITS. I wonder why I never noticed that before......

All in, another great show.

They had the RAH DVD on sale tonight too.

Thanks for the reviews - we haven't had any negative comments about this Spring tour that I can recall reading. Great stuff.

In all the times I've seen TAPFS I still see 'new things' from time to time. For example, last week at the Fairfield Halls, I noticed that for the last 2 or 3 minutes of Sheep Steve and Damian were playing identically in terms of the music. They weren't watching each other but you could only hear sound as though it were one guitar playing - perfect timing or what?

Can only agree with the comments already made about this show. You could tell by looks and smiles on the faces of the band at the end that they knew it had been a good one.A REALLY good one.2,500 people let them know it too.Loudly.

Interesting to hear that they think that Southend does have an "Australian vibe" to it which is why they like to play there.I shall wear me shorts next time. You have been warned....

Personal hilights for me,the guitar shredding solo in Set The Controls.Sheep, which strikes me as one of the more difficult songs to master in the Floyd rep.....but they do and inevitably Great Gig.If ever there was a piece of music that brings a smile to my face everytime thats the one.Ladies, superb as ever.

The shows production continues to raise the bar and the sound was superb where i was positioned...dead centre half way back so no excuses there i suppose but still....superb.
So all in all,the Basildon branch of the Aussie Appreciation Society's fourth year to the Cliffs Pav concurs that once again, the best yet in all depts.

There remains one thing......Four years on and still to hear the one Floyd song live that really would have made us all give last night a 10 rather than 9.995.
Sorrow.
Next time.
Pleeeeeeeease.

So once again proof that truly great music never dies,it just gets played by different people i guess......in this case, one of the greatest live acts touring today.
Thanks for a great night people 10 hours later and still smiling....
