TOPIC: Aberdeen 8/05/08

Aberdeen 8/05/08 4 years ago #1

Just got back from the venue and what can i say. A great performance all round but it seems that it was farrrrr to polished up this year. Didnt really have the same vibe as the year before. Might be the acoustics i dont know just felt something was missing.

I managed to blag a setlist courtesy of Gareth of course.

In The flesh
The Thin Ice
Another Brick Pt1
Happiest Days
Another Brick Pt2
Learning To Fly
Money
Set The Controls
Mother
Pigs (3 Diffrent Ones)

Shine On 1-5
Time
Great Gig
Goodbye Blue Sky
Empty Spaces
Young Lust
Keep Talking
Hey You
Nobody Home
One Of These Days
Wish You Were Here
Comfortably Numb

Run Like Hell

No Bruces Or Sheila Intros today saddly but great show non the less.

I'll go through the parts i felt werent great first

first of all the sound, i dont know wether this was the size of the venue but it was farr to quiet and un evenlly mixed it just didnt compare to last years amazing show.

2ndly Mike Kidson seemed to have problems during set the controls as they extended his solo by an extra 2 bars comparing to the DVD of course.

2rdly Shine On i dont know wether it was me but it seemed that Steve was playing far to fast everything didnt seem to syncup right to me perosnally but im a fussyugger so it may be me.

Lastly i have to say i was 100% sure that Colin lipsynced Empty Spaces i am so sure it just did not sync up his vocals and the sound and it didnt sound like him at all.

The Lightshow

i felt was very good however i do feel that last years concert was a hell of alot better the light show was far more livler and less dull last year.

Good points

Holy Actual Mother Of God...

How good is Damions solo in Set The Controls holy god hes playing a hell of alot better than i remember this easily tops off Jamies solo from the latest dvd.

On a much further side note Steve Mac seems to have improved his playing he was more looser this time and not just a stiff old brick on stage. His playing yeh is the same as last time but he seemed to be alot more comfortabler ? than the last time i seen him. (obviously me and my girlfriend joked about the size of his rig ....... I mean come on its Laughable when you compare it to Damions whos tones are far more superior.)

However i must say it was great seeing the band again i very much enjoyed the show Skippy made a appearance during One of these days and i must say he looks very very very Worn Out . Time for some beauty treatment.

The Pig from Pigs Three Diffrent Ones WOWWWWWWww

perfect timing for the solo i didnt think it was going to get infalted in time but wow props to the crew for such a good job. It was great seeing the faces around me light up with amazement not that they werent amazed already i mean the look on my fiancee's face said it all especially on great gig. She often comments how much the singing irritates her but wow she actually admitted that she nearly fell off her chair.

Lastly But Not Least

Goodbye Blue Sky ..... the harmonies are perfect i reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeallly enjoyed this it was brilliant the way that Damion and Steves voices interact with each other and The girls was brilliant sounded dead on the original.

I will also say that Mikes asda price advert type dancing on money was priceless was very entertaining and Ola wow she was struttting her stuff like crazy especially in Young lust.

Does anyone know why Damions, Comfortably Numb Solo was shoter than usuall. Im Postivie it was shorter

Oh me it feels like all ive done is complain but dont take it wrong THEY REALLY ARE THE BEST TRIBUTE ACT IN THE WORLD gaurenteed to make u sing all the way through and jump from your chair in excitement.

I have to point out lastly that Steve and Damion to me have never seemed more happier they were reallly really smiling tonight.

But from the videos on youtube i dont think that anyone really knew what Ian was talking about with all the "are there any paranoids in the audience tonight" it was silent as a belll...

But reallly an amazing show but to me it could have been MUCH louder not just slightly louder but SIGNIFICANTLY LOUDER and the lights i didnt feel were used to there full ptential like last year.

but with all ive said aside

GO SEE THEM THEY REALLY ARE ONE OF THE BEST BANDS ON THE PLANET ABSOLOUTELY MAGNIFICENT LOOKING FORWARD TO NEXT YEAR.

Even managed to get myself a WYWH t shirt been tryingto get mysize for the last 3 years

hope u enjoy my review im not comaplaing just telling people what i honestly thought i took my gf for the first time and ive never seen her msile so much in her life she loved every minute of it . I myself loved the show aswell but it did have flaws for me i still feel last years show was much stronger and dont shoot me about the Colin empty spaces queery but seriously i am so sure..

Hope u enjoy the review and dont shoot me please if u wanna have a go do it thru pm i dont mind really i know ive probs seemed like ive moaned but i really enjoyed it it was really minor flaws my advice is go see them more than worht every penny.

Videos up soon !!!

Enjoy!!

Thank you for sharing your personal opinions.
Why expect to be shot down for saying what you think.
Mike Kidsons solo in Set The Controls being two bars too long ? Unforgivable

Because things get shorter as they get older.  Just ask Fossil.

Yeah...I wish they would cut out the Waters intro that Ian does to Run Like Hell. Just doesn't fit. The audience sit spellbound and amazed at most of the gigs (as one should at a Floyd gig) then comes the encore and the intro vocal is an attempt to get everyone up and clapping their hands (which they will be doing anyway after the buzz of just hearing Comfy). It just ain't in the Floyd zone for me Roger.

I have to admit I wish he wouldn't do it either.  I find it a little embarrassing.
