TOPIC: Royal Albert Hall dvd in North America - Dolby Digital???

Royal Albert Hall dvd in North America - Dolby Digital??? 4 years ago #1

I own the RAH dvd and it says on the cover that there's a dolby digital audio layer.  I was excited about the dvd having a 5.1 surround mix.  However, the dvd only pulls up PCM 2.0.  That's it.  Bummer.  Anyone else notice this?

Hmmmm I haven't noticed but I tend to play concert DVD's in stereo. 5.1 sounds too flat to me. I won't be able to check my disk until tonight.

By the way, welcome!

Ok cool yeah let me know.  Personally I prefer dolby digital since you have the mix broken out instead of mixed down to 2 channels.  I just find it weird that it says "dolby digitial" on the cd case yet all that pulls up is PCM 2.0

My receiver also reads PCM 2.0. Still sound great though.  ;D

Cool - Dolby Digital being printed on the sleeve must be a mistake.

The Audio on the Royal Albert Hall DVD consists of a stereo PCM 48 kHz 16 bit uncompressed concert soundtrack, with all the rest of the audio on the disk (for all the menus and bonus features etc.) in stereo Dolby Digital 2.0. The mistake on the packaging is in not drawing attention to the fact that the concert audio is uncompressed PCM.
