Yesterday when I posted a short question on the thread concerning the Newquay gig and the possibility of Pirate FM perhaps broadcasting some of the show, I got to thinking that from time to time I hear references to the Australian Pink Floyd show on the radio but never any music by way of being an example of their high quality skill in performance.
That led me on to the thought that there is only the old Irish television clip of them being broadcast on the telly.
An obvious question then, which hasn't been aired very often apart that is from a reference made by W1P some months ago,is: are the band tied into a licensing agreement that prohibits them from performing Pink Floyd songs over the broadcast medium?
I would assume that some kind of fee is paid in order to get permission for live shows, a levy paid per ticket perhaps and in exchange for that concession the band agree not to go on television. Lets face it it'll cost EMI a lot in back catalogue Floyd CD sales if they did.
I don't seek to pry into the bands private business affairs. If though anybody knows how this kind of rights system works, It would be interesting to know?
