Pittsburgh Show Review 3 years, 7 months ago #1

Hey all.  Remember me?  I stop in every now and again to check up on things or post a review.  I usually drive up to the Toronto shows because they are the closest to me, but at the last minute I decided I couldn't hold out till December, so I bought one of the single tickets remaining and drove down from Buffalo alone.  And boy was I ever excited to be getting my yearly Aussie Floyd fix.  And yay, I get to feel special for posting the first review of the first ever APF Wall tour.  ;D ;D

So...  four hours later I arrived.  I was actually early for once.  I'm always late or just on time because my friends that I usually drag along don't know the true awesomeness of APF until after seeing the show, therefore they dawdle around and slow us down.  But not this time.  I was all alone and 1 hour early.  So, I took the opportunity to have some herbal refreshment before the show in front of these buildings...

Why would I bother posting that?  I don't know, maybe to keep you in suspense before getting to the review.  I also had to take a pic of this chandelier, which drew my eye...

So anyway... let me soften you up first by saying it was a real treat to see this awesome band perform the whole Wall.  It was an awesome show, as usual.  Are you keeping track of how many times I say awesome?  The crew was almost the usual US crew, but instead of Jamie Humphries, there was a guitarist I didn't recognize and his bio isn't on the site.  I made a point to remember his name, but I lost it in my slight haze.    I'm sure one of you knows his name.  Enlighten me please.  I haven't been keeping up on things lately.  I almost had his sig along with one of the girls on my shirt, but I was next in line and they said they had to get on the bus.  Bummer.

The setlist:

The Wall (with intermission after side one)
Shine on
Time
Great Gig
WYWH
Brain Damage
Eclipse

The venue was nice, but small, and there was no room for the usual fun props.  No biggie, but it does take a little something away for me.  There was no kangaroo or piggies.  There was no arch and no round mr screen.  But I guess those props are more fitted to a different setlist anyway.  They used rectangle mr screen along with the usual lasers and what not.  I think they used the rectangle screen on purpose for the building of the wall.  It will be interesting to see if they use it only for all the shows. There was no disco ball for comfy, which I found unusual.  It looked like some cool new material was playing on the screen, but my last row seat had a big light fixture blocking half the screen.  So it was nowhere near the visual experience for me as were the previous shows I have seen.

Now, I don't want anyone to take this the wrong way.  I always have made it clear that APF is awesome and I always give good reviews (referenced below)...

...but... there were a few minor timing and coordination issues tonight, even on some commonly played stuff like Shine On.  Most blended in and they recovered well,  so most folks probably were not bothered, especially the drunk people, lol.  But there were a couple distinct mistakes like during Shine On, I felt like they skipped a few notes and then they left out "Remember when you were young" and went right to "you shone like the sun", but then they recovered and it didn't really affect the overall awesomeness of the show.  They just need a little polishing up after taking a well deserved break.  I'll be going to Toronto to see them in December, and I'm sure they'll be perfect as usual.

The show was  well worth 8 hours of driving and a hundred bucks in gas.  Oh yeah, and on that note, if you guys are lurking in these forums, I beg you, pleeeeease come to Buffalo next year.  You could easily sell out Sheas.  I could fill up 2 rows myself with all the people I tell of your awesomeness. They just aren't willing to travel long distances so I can prove it.

Here are some pics for ya.  I didn't take many, because, like I said, I had a stupid fixture blocking my view, and some heads too...

I was particularly disturbed by this image, both during the show, and on the shirt.  If I wear that to work, is it gonna get me sued?

So, that's my review.  Looking forward to more.

Gooday.

Thank you for the review and pics.
That has just made the wait for the UK tour even more agonising

I finally got that much needed sleep after last nights show. I dont what I can add to my report that wasn't stated in the prior post.

My feeling of the crowd reaction was they aproved of the performance but I would bet that if they had their choice of a setlist the Wall other than Comfortably Numb and Hey You would not have been played in full version. Whether most were not paying attention or not almost everyone seated in my section did not know that The Wall was going to be played. For me personally it was a good show for what it was but I will say something was missing. I cant put my finger on it only to say I wish they would play more from Animals. This album gets overlooked for whatever reason.

As for the misses or timing issues they were noticed but not that glaring. This is to be expected during parts of The Wall but during their regular setlist songs I was surprised.

I really liked the stage setup, the industrial look with basic black and straight forward gave them a different look and set the scene for The Wall.

I tried to get pictures but the "Staff" was standing right in front of me since I was In row A of the first tier balcony.

Thanks for the reviews and the pics.  It helps set the scene.

That is a bizarre looking character on the shirt too.....

Wonder who the guitarist is?

Thanks for the reviews. Whoever the axe player is, looks like he's left handed from the pics.
