TOPIC: Hartford Ct. 10-18 review

Hartford Ct. 10-18 review 3 years, 7 months ago #1

Well the wait is over and the show was everything I hoped it would be.
Reading past reviews gave me a sense of what to expect. I must say the show was SPOT ON!
I think what continues to impress me is the details. The show was theatrical as you can imagine. They set the mode and mode plays into them.
Sound quality, lighting and more importantly to me is the note for note details. I close my eyes and hear the songs as if I was listening to the CD.  ;D

It was a APF first for my brother and my daughters boy friend, which by the way was his first concert ever. Not a bad way to start!

The show was sold out at the Dodge which holds nearly 10,000.
Our seats Section 700 row AA sounded good when I purchase them, and well all smiled and gave high fives as we sat down.

Lights go off and side one starts which sent chills through me. As I tried to focus on the band, and take in the show, pedestrians kept passing in front of us.
We had front row alright, right smack dab behind the walk way. Now one would think, this section would have been raised on order to have an unobstructed view? :-\
It did take a while for the stragglers to find their seats, which set me off a little, as I have waited a year, arrived on time and seated 5 minutes before the show. I hope all of you that came in late stay home next year! Sorry I just had to get that off my chest. >
No sooner then I was able to get back into the show, it was intermission. Next year I will defiantly will be getting much better seats!

Second half of the show was much better to me, much less discrations. That was until the Wall ended and many started to leave. No manors! What is the matter with these people? >
encor sets as mentioned in previous reviews, Awesome!!

The Wall which is not on the top of the list of Floyd albums, was put in perspective with the live show. The story was put together well with the large screen being used behind the band. No inflatables this year, which is OK because of the thyme.

My daughter who went with me last year, thought that last years show was better because she knew most of the songs. You know when you hear a song for the first time, it takes a few more times to under stand them. Don't get me wrong, this years show was unique as the Wall had not been done in what 25 years, and the band did a fantastic job.
and for many of you waiting for your turn, you will not be disappointed!

Great read Shine On, enjoyed it a lot. About 10,000 seats eh....that's a lot of bums on seats. Clearly hartford has a huge fan following of the APFS! From what I read on the forum here, ticket sales everywhere are strong, and if you are not quick with buying tickets you might loose out. Too bad about the late arrivals, but people are people, and sometimes they are a pain in the arse!  Like everyone else here in N America, I am looking forward to the show.

Hi Shine On.

Thanks for the review! You're always going to get stragglers at music events, and those people much more interested in the alcohol before, during, and after the show than the event itself.
Just mention Liverpool Pops to a few members on here, and see what response you get  ;D

Its a question that has been asked since musical events first started. Why do people go when its blatantly obvious that they are not interested in whats going on ?
The simple answer must be....So when "I" hear my friends and others talking about how good it was "I" can say that "I" too was there. Then I'm able to bullshit my way through a conversation saying how ,"Truly Great" the experience was.
Didn't The Floyd once write a song about that ? SHEEP.

One thing to remember is that APF starts right on time.  (Which is so unlike most concerts).  Curiously the one time I saw the actual Floyd was at the PULSE tour concert in Tempe in 1994 and that show started around 30-40 minutes after the time on the tix.  But for those attending their first APF show, please get there on time so you don't miss a note (and so those around you can enjoy the show without being interrupted to let you get into your seats.)

Sorry your experience was marred by this, Shine On.  Inappropriate distractions at concerts drive me to homocidal thoughts.  For quite a while after the actual distraction has ended, I continue to be even more distracted by my own thinking about what could be said to such cretins,  or composing an email in my mind to the concert organizers, etc.

I was at the Hartford show too, and was in my seat early, preparing my ears and eyes for a feast.  I did hear something at intermission, though, that may redirect some of your ire from the "stragglers" to the venue designer, venue operator, and show organizers.

Many of the folks who were seated late, and dislodged you from you state of bliss, were devoted fans who actually arrived at the venue well before showtime.  They were delayed interminably by the ridiculous bottleneck of an entrance.  Imagine a 7,500 seat venue (30,000 when the outdoor section is opened up), with no pedestrian access (its well outside the city, in the middle of nowhere),  no street parking (no streets), and no mass transit to speak of,  that has just one big parking lot with just one way in:  a little driveway.  Apparently the line to drive in was backed up half an hour or so.

The only easy fix I can think of is for the band and the concert organizers to build in an extra 30 min between the advertised show time and the actual start time, and not tell the public about it.  (BTW, the above not withstanding, I think the New England Dodge Music Center is a nice venue, and a great place to see a live concert)
