Does anyone know how the Aussies are performing the various string and horn sections that occur in various spots throughout the Wall (i.e. the Trial, Bring the Boys Back Home, etc)?  I imagine they just have those sections "canned", but, jeez, it would be cool if they did it live...

I haven't seen the show yet... bring on tomorrow! But, it's probably canned/backing tracks... How else can you do it with one keyboard player? I have seen Damian play keyboards too. To add a string and horn section would be too costly and take up a lot of stage space but it would be cool to see.
Hanging on in quiet desperation.....

Yeah, I was alluding to a live string and horn section, which would be costly, etc., but wow, it would be awesome.  I'll be curious to get your take on it after seeing the show!  Have fun

No stings and horns, however they do a great job with the megga phone. What song I do not remember. But it sounded great.

There's a difference between "canned" tracks or "backing tracks" and using "patches" the play the string section parts on a keyboard.  If it's "canned," you're using pre-recorded parts.  If you're using a string section or horn section "patch," then you're actually playing the music (and if you make a mistake, it will "shine through") using the keyboard.  If you use pre-recorded tracks, there's much more danger of a problem (think Ashley Simpson on SNL a few years ago) because if the track is "cued in" at the wrong time, it will through the entire band off the rails.  When Which One's Pink? performs "The Wall" (or songs from "The Wall"), we use patches.  I'm confident that's what the Aussies do too.

There's a photo of Ian using the megaphone on the official TAPFS site.
