I'm the concert organizer of my group of friends. That's my favorite thing do. Get the tickets & get them handed out for the next great show. Well "The Wall" concert by the Aussie Floyd was well worth the effort. After recently seeing Crosby Stills & Nash then Santana, Neil Young, Lindsay Buckingham etc. that were all great shows, Aussie Floyd topped them all! No contest. What a show.

The first set was album 1 of The Wall, about a 7 minute break & they started album 2. Comfortably Numb is always my favorite & was no disappointment this time either. The girls were great as always. After they played the entire album they returned for an encore that included Wish You Were Here, some "early Floyd when Syd Barrett was playing with them & ended the show with Dark Side of The Moon. That last song took something away from the incredible acoustics the animation & fantastic vocals because they just HAD TO, JUST HAD TO inject politics into it by putting pictures of Bush, Thatcher. Tony Blair. McCain & none other than Sarah Palin on the screen. WHY KILL AN ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE SHOW!!!! LEAVE THAT TO ROGER WATERS!! Had to get that off my chest. Haven't we had enough politics for a while?

That said this show was the third I saw of theirs & all were terrific. They play small venues usually. This one was only 2200 seats. I had 1st row Grand Tier with 7 of my best friends. Everyone loved it. I'll see their next one as well I hope they go light on the political visuals. Their words speak for themselves. Now without Rick Wright & with Roger & David getting older it's great to get a band together that can continue to play their music , to "almost perfection."  It will never be like Madison Square Garden in the 70's but nothing wrong with "almost perfection." I hope they can keep the show fresh. As long as they do & I'm breathing air, I'll be there!

Some interesting comments here. TAPFS have been touring the States for a number of years and the images of various politicians used in Brain Damage/Eclipse does elicit some interesting responses in american audiences. I will add a note of defense here because I think you are missing the point about the politics. TAPFS does not have any political agenda or message to preach. However, Roger Waters is often 'political' in his music and the imagery used in Brain Damage/Eclipse is based on actual news footage used by Pink Floyd and Roger Waters himself on previous tours. The fact that some of the news footage has been 'updated'  is simply because much of the old footage would probably be lost on  younger members of the audience.

During one gig some time ago a member of an american audience walked out on one of the gigs because he took offense at the image of Ronald Reagan, thinking that TAPFS were somehow making some sort of statement about the Mr Reagan himself. Nothing could be further from the truth.

There is definitely a cultural difference here between some of the'aussies' perception of things and the way certain americans look at things. Humour, and most notably, British humour and 'irony' is generally misunderstood by some (but not all) people in the States-something which members of TAPFS  encounter from time to time on their frequent tours of the American continent.

Praise indeed in manana's first paragraph.
As for his apparent annoyance at the inclusion of political images ? Its a shame that you let that spoil your enjoyment of the night. You must have understood it in a way that was not meant?
Over here in the UK for my part Ive always taken these images to be quite ironic and humorous, as in "Why in a democracy do we repeatedly choose to be led by untrustworthy fools."

Great review Manana and welcome to the forum. I have seen The Wall performed in full by Pink Floyd at Earls Court and by Roger Waters in Berlin and I have watched the video many times. I am really looking forward to seeing it done by the Aussies. Although I respect your point of view about the politics, I would be very disappointed if the Aussies took it upon themselves to remove this important element of the show. It just would not be right in my opinion.
Are we nearly there yet?

So if you pay tribute to an artist who flies a pig imprinted with "impeach Bush" and "vote for Obama" over his shows you should "leave politics out of it" when you perform the same music?  Great googily moogily.  Hey all you Bob Dylan tributes out there . . .

OK people so I was maybe a little to harsh in my review. Sorry. I agree that Aussie couldn't omit the images but perhaps could have had a few less of them. 2008 has seen these images  of these incompetent politicians 24/7 & I guess I just had a "momentary lapse of reason," lost it & over reacted. Also it was the very last cut of the show. Maybe had it been earlier I wouldn't have been as effected. All in all it's "just another brick in the wall." I've been a PF fan since 1968 & love that Aussie Floyd will "let the show go on." My sons were brought up with them & now their sons will be as well.
Hopefully Obama will not be a future image. Hopefully history will show him in a different way.
Peace & love to all.
