TOPIC: Sheffield Arena Concert Review

Sheffield Arena Concert Review 3 years ago #1

Had a great night on Thursday at Sheffield Arena. This time I went with my wife, 2 sons and my sister and her boyfriend. The concert could be described in 2 distinct sections. The performance of The Wall was superb in every detail. Musically superb and with great effects and theatrical performances. Ian was great as Pink, and the girls had a much more active role. I was particularly touched at the end of Goodbye Cruel World. When the lights came up, my sister had a tear in her eye, and admitted that she was quite emotional.
Unfortunately, the 5 or 6 song encore was a little less polished. Whilst the music was performed as tightly as ever, there were a couple of shortcomings in the presentation.
I was surprised to see the kangaroo appear at the side of the stage during One of These Days. Normally he is dancing about at the back of centre stage. Also, there were 2 pigs on show, but they would have been more relevant if they had actually played Pigs. The biggest problem was that the inflatables were not illuminated very well, and could not be seen very clearly.
Don't misunderstand me, the concert  as a whole was magnificent, but I think that there were a couple of aspects of the presentation that were less polished than usual.
We are now thinking about seeing them at Harewood House, Leeds in June. First time outdoors for me. Should be good.

Cheers

Is it me (again) but wasn't Harewood House near Leeds a gig organised for June last year ?It didn't actually take place though. For reasons that remain unexplained it was cancelled.

thanks for the post CBN, maybe you know something we don't about a gig at Harewood house? Indeed last year's gig there did get cancelled unfortunately but they are playing at The Grand in Leeds in July.

Absolutely right. I seem to have picked up a previous year's tour listing. Shame though, would have been a good gig.

Thanks for pointing it out and for saving me some considerable embarrassment!

Great review CBN thanks for sharing. I think Skippy has been relegated to the side stage due to the fact that a lot more of the stage is used during The Wall and he would have been in the way of the action whilst lay in a crumpled heap awaiting his big moment. With regards to the pigs being not well illuminated I think this is a deliberate action to make them appear more menacing. Certainly when I saw the real Floyd use the pig in the 70s they would flood the venue with dry ice and dim the lights, very effective. Again, thanks for your review and glad you enjoyed it.
Are we nearly there yet?
