TOPIC: Theatre Royal, Norwich 25th July '09

I rushed back from Silverstone to get to this gig, first time for the band at this venue. I met up with Colin beforehand for a chat, back on bass duties who confirmed it would be a bit crowded and cosy on the small stage.

The crew did a great job fitting everything on there, but they could not hang the PA speaker stacks, so they had to sit on the stage left and right, restricting space further. Our seats were in the stalls, middle centre, great view of all players and we had some friends a couple of rows back who were to the far right. Chatting to them before the start their view was quite restricted, they could not see the keyboards or any of the girls and only half of the screen. I guess it would have been the same for those with seats on the far left.

Anyway, my fifth Wall show and good as ever, great sound again and a great reception from the packed theatre..especially after CN. The encore was SOYCD, GGITS (Amy singing, Ola not present), WYWH, OOTD, BD/Eclipse. No inflatables or lasers, Colin said to me the band were not allowed to use lasers, perhaps the size of venue?

Great show, my friends thought so too despite their view. Infact when Jason spoke and thanked us for coming, he had to step out from behind the PA stack so everyone could see him. On the way out I overheard a couple of other people saying the same thing ' how can they be called a tribute band, too good for that'.

Thanks for the review Andrew, I did get the impression from the Reading show, that this is an opportunity for people who have never seen the band before to be introduced to "The World Wide Phenomena".
I am sure that just the same percentage go to the larger gigs but with the crowds being so much bigger you dont tend to hear as much feedback after the show.
I know this discussion has been mentioned many times before but I think the term "Tribute Band" tends to put some people off and until they actually see the band they realise that the natural prejudice associated with the term does not apply to TAPFS.
