TOPIC: Knoxville, TN 10/15/09

Knoxville, TN 10/15/09 2 years, 7 months ago #1

Hello everyone, what a great bunch of folks you have here. I just registered to post my thoughts.

First, I have never been to a TAPFS show until this October 15 in Knoxville, TN. Ive followed them for years, but its just never come to pass that the planets were all in line and I could actually go. Until now!

This was the most incredible show since Vanderbilt Stadium in 1994. I was completely blown away! I didnt bother taking down a setlist or anything...but the only difference I can remember (from other setlists posted here) would be that I dont remember them playing Set the Controls...

But overall it was a wonderful experience! I had a tear in my eye during GGITS, and felt like the back of my head was being blown off during the last half of the show. They simply took the roof off the place!

I was a *smidge* disappointed that there were no lasers at our show...but its totally without consequence to me. I would have liked them to be there, as I had company who's never been to a real Floyd show, and would have liked her to have been wowed by the lasers.

Overall I cannot wait until next year, as I have vowed to not miss another show that comes anywhere within 150 miles of me

One question....does anyone know what determines if there will be lasers? Say for example next year theres a Nashville show, and a Knoxville show...I would choose which to go to based on one having lasers, over the other. But would still go to the one without if I had no other choice!

Thanks for letting me post my thoughts on this wonderful group of musicians, who play so perfectly the music I love so dearly!

Hello Floyd_Fan great name that you chose

Great review. I would just read the posts of the members that have been to shows as they post reviews and see if they say lasers were at the show or not. No way to really tell otherwise.  Have fun next year. May i suggest carry a portable laser set or all have your own laser pointers  ;D

Hello and welcome!

To answer your question, it was simply economics. Like everyone else, the band has had to watch costs so none of the shows on this US tour have had lasers even though it was promoted.
Hanging on in quiet desperation.....

Not to be argumentative but I just don't buy this explanation. Lasers have come down in price so much that they are now cheaper than standard lighting sources. Don't believe me? Check any on line band supply catalog. Each one of those intelligent revolving lights costs as much as three or four laser light generators. Maybe they didn't need to bring as many as in the past but I really think they could have afforded a few , especially since the promotional material stated "with even more inflatables and lasers."

I was there too! The best concert I've ever seen in over 35 years of of concert attending. I also could barely believe that my ticket was only $25! I know it was fifteen years ago but this was a pretty reasonable price for a major stadium show even back then.
