TOPIC: Tower Theatre, Upper Darby 10/23

Tower Theatre, Upper Darby 10/23 2 years, 7 months ago #1

This is my first time posting, but I just got back from their show in Philadelphia last night and I thought I would share. It was I believe my 9th time seeing them. I've gone to all their shows for the last 5 years or so. Setlist wise, I think it was there best variety of songs to date. Everything just flowed and went together perfectly. The first half was Dark Side/WYWH/Animals. I would have liked to have heard Dogs, but I've heard them do it before so I wasn't too disappointed.

The second half is where I absolutely loved it. The addition of High Hopes this tour is unbelievable played along with the original movie from the PF/Pulse Tour back in 94'. Along with Take it Back and Gunners Dream, I had goose bumps. It really makes you think of how talented and special Pink Floyd music is, theres nothing else quite like it. I grew up listening to Floyd with my Dad. We saw them in 94' (my Dad's first concert) and he now has seen these guys 4 times. My sister and Uncle went with also, both first timers and definitley not there last after last night.

Now the negative, and there is only 1.  NO LASERS!!!  From seeing them in the past WITH lasers, last night was a bit of a disappointment. The stage/light show was one of there best to date. Had they had the lasers, it would have been the ultimate. It still I think was there best show to date! There voices and guitar solos continue to astonish me. The new keyboardist is similar to Rick Wrights, Ian is still I think a Roger double, and Damien is hitting Gilmour better and better.

Well thats my review! Below is the setlist from last night from my best memories.

Breathe
On The Run
Time
Great Gig in the Sky
Shine On Pt. 1
Welcome to the Machine
Pigs TDO
Sheep

Astronomy Domine
Learning to Fly
High Hopes
Set the Controls
Take It Back
Gunner's Dream
Happiest Days
Brick II
Wish You Were Here
One of These Days
Hey You
Is There Anybody Out There
Nobody Home
Vera Lynn
Bring the Boys Back Home
Comfortably Numb

Run Like Hell

I'm sure that it hasn't gone unnoticed that there is an accumulating level of disappointment by the audience due to the lack lasers being featured during the show.
        Thank you for your review

Hey matmanmoto, welcome to the forum and thanks for the review. Great that you went with others who are now converts too. The show is a bit special if you are a real PF fan. I often close my eyes at the gigs (not that worried about the effects) and it takes me back to the couple of PF gigs I went to. Such a dreamer I am  :

Now, what's the story with your forum name - come on fess up

This was the 6th time I saw Aussie Floyd at the Tower and even though I thought it was another great show, I think it did suffer some problems.  I was a little disappointed with the lack of lasers and inflatables but that was to be expected because of the other reviews I read.

But there seems to be something else lacking that I couldn't pin down until I saw youtube footage of other concerts of this tour.  They only used one projector for Mr. Screen and not the 2 others on the backdrop.  In the past they projected on the backdrop as well as Mr. Screen.  So we had no upside down spectrums at the end of 'Time' nor the stars and galaxies floating by at the beginning of 'Shine On' and so forth.  I remember 2 yeas ago during 'Welcome to the Machine' they had animation on the sides of the circle as well.  So I think that was the biggest disappointment of the evening.

There were a few other hiccups as well.  Ian screwed up the lyrics on 'Set the Controls' and the screen went blank for a good portion of the song right after.  Damain lost his sound on his acoustic guitar during 'Vera' as well that caused an engineer to come out in the middle of the song to try to fix it.

Don't get me wrong. Overall it was a good concert and I can't wait to see them again next year.  Maybe they just ran into technical difficulties.  I do have high expectations for the band though because all their past shows were awesome.

But I'd like to thank the band for another great North American tour and I look forward to them coming back to Philly next year.

They have set a high bar. I think you were befit with a few tech issues as they did seem to have it all going well in NY. They did have an issue with the inflatable but it did eventually "fly". Well not really but it did finally get inflated. There were a couple of musical timing issues but only on Learning to Fly and One of These Days but they palyed thru and recovered  well. I have a theory like a pitcher in baseball they may have needed an extra days rest between the tours.
