TOPIC: New York Hammerstein Ballroom

New York Hammerstein Ballroom 2 years, 6 months ago #1

Just one word, awesome. The newbies that came were absolutely floored by the band and the show. The set list was similar to what they have been playing. But we all agreed that Dogs at the end of the first set was phenominal. Sorry, but at the end of the set our hole row couldn't help but be the "stand up chicks" and guys. How can you not just get up and pump your fists when what is pehaps one of the best finishes in all rock music is occurring right before your eyes and ears. The power of that song is just overwhelming and they hit it dead on.

One real treat was also to hear Take it Back and Learning to Fly in the 2nd set which were done with the precision we all have come to expect. But I am still a little partial to Floyd's earlier works with Roger Waters still in the band. ( can't help it I'm old).

What was really well done was the transition from LP to LP with Skippy spinning the vinyl as the band went from DSOM to WYWH to Animals. We found that was one small touch that brought a certain cohesiveness to the show that is usually hard to do when breaking up the albums. They really made it work.

Even without the lazers the light show was outstanding and perfectly coordinated. Ian really does have a presence on stage and I must say I really think he does Roger Waters better than any other we have seen. He almost seems to have taken on his personna when he performs. Maybe dare I say even more of an entertainer.  Damian as always was terrific and would have made David Gilmour proud.

The only negative was the venue. The building itself and sound was great. But it was almost gestappo like security and made our group a little uncomfortable. Maybe somehow someday they will consider coming to a Long Island venue when they come to the NY area. It was obvious that more than half the crowd came from Long Island to see the show. If The Machine can draw 1500 people, there is no doubt our band could double that.

Thanks for the set List. Great to see other New Yorkers on the forum. If any others are from Long Island I wonder if we might try to request that the band consider a show on The Island. Not quite sure how we could go about doing it maybe if other LIers are interested we could send e mails.

I'm from Long Island myself. I don't think they're going to play LI, there really isn't a good venue that could accommodate them. Nassau Coliseum is way to big for them, the North Fork Westbury theater wouldn't work either. Jones Beach is a possibility, but they'd need ALOT of promotion, and would need to play in early September to be able to book a date in season. Other then those 3, I can't think of any other decent venues on Long Island.

I know we have limited venues. But I was actually thinking the Tilles Center or Brookhaven.  Both I think could handle the show.
