If you've read my other thread about going to the O2 in April you'll already know that me and the missus have decided to take the kids this time when we go to see TAPFS.

They are both girls, aged 8 and 10 years old. Emily, our ten year old is reasonably into Floyd (along with McFly, hannah montana and various other teen-aimed tripe  ) and our 8 year old will love the lights and atmosphere if nothing else, although she does sing along to a few Floyd classics when played in the car.

Just wanted your opinions really. Do you think they're too young to be going to a concert of this size? I've had mixed looks and responses when I've told a few people at work.

It's not gonna make any difference, they're going now anyway - cos I've paid for the damn tickets!!!!

But it would be interesting to see what you think. I wouldn't have even considered taking them when I went to see Green Day at the O2 in October last year, but I thought at least TAPFS isn't what I'd class as obscene and full of foul language etc.

It's quite an old topic, but have a look at this:

Our youngest forum member is 10, and she loves them!

I'd just be a bit concerned about the sound level and how young inexperienced hearing will cope.
Certainly its highly unlikely that you'll come up against problems caused by a rowdy audience.......never in a million years would I even consider taking my two grandaughters aged 8 +10 to the L'pool gigs :-[

Two years ago, I took my nine and 12 year old sons to the Bournemouth show.

The younger boy was absolutely blown away by the sound, the lights and the overall quality of the special affects.  He's a real fan.  TAPFS had all the toys out that night.

We all had a great time.  One of the best family nights out ever.  That was partly because I knew everyone would enjoy the music and would not get bored.  I have to admit that by the end of the show, the boys were feeling a bit sleepy.

In hindsight, the only thing I might consider next time is giving my sons ear plugs.  I mean the ones that filter the sound rather than block out everything.

I'd say take your daughters along but just be aware of the sound level and the lateness the show will finish.
Andre has a red flag.... and a hill to fly it on!!

Thanks for the replies. That other thread was interesting reading too Nick I had considered taking them to see The Wall show last year, but in the end decided against it mainly because I wanted them to see/hear more of the "classic" Floyd stuff than just The Wall. Had they been a little older then I would probably have taken them last year too.

I can get some ear plugs easily enough as I can grab some from the production area of where I work. Although saying that, we're sat a fair way from the stage and when I went to see Green Day last year, I felt the O2 sound system was loud without being harsh, if that makes sense? Maybe it's because its such a large venue?

I went to see Lostprophets last Sunday and they played in a smallish hall, standing room only. We were stood right at the back (I think I was the oldest person in the room - but that's another story) and my ears were ringing for a couple of hours after that gig.

With regard to the lateness of it all, Carol's (mrs SteveW) brother lives in central london so we only need to get back from the O2 to his place after the show, as we're staying there for the night. And the kids regularly have late nights on saturday when we visit friends, so the lateness of the show isn't too much of a concern
