TOPIC: Brighton, 24/04/2010

Brighton, 24/04/2010 2 years, 1 month ago #1

Ok well i spent some considerable time looking through the achive tour dates trying to work out just exactly how many times i would have seen the Aussie Floyd after last night. To my suprise and horror, last night was my 53rd Aussie gig! The stange thing is, i havent had the opportunity to see them for several years due to holidays and other commitments during then normal April, May Uk tour slots. So what did i think?
Show was fantastic. Set list as follows:

Set 1
Speak To Me
Breathe
On The Run
Time
Breathe Rep
TGGITS
Shine On1-5
Welcome To The Machine
Pigs
Sheep

Set 2
Astronomy Domin
Learning To Fly
High Hopes
Money
STCFTHOTS
Keep Talking,
GYFHOMD,
TFMH,
THDOOL,
ABITWP2,
WYWH,
OOTD,
CN

Encore
RLH

This would be the first time that iw ould see them with the adition of Carl and Ian. Carls guitar and wind contributions were very good, but i was less convinced by his percussive input (being a drummer i'm always critical). Ian is superb as Roger Waters but i feel Steve Mac and Damian do a better job covering the Gilmour vocals. In my opinion Ian's voice does not suit Learning To Fly.
I was happy to see Colin on Bass. It just wouldnt be the same without his wry smiles, especially during his little mistake during the intro to Sheep  ;D Steve Mac was as solid as ever and was clearly enjoying himself. They guy is such a perfectionist and must tune his guitar countless times during the show. Damian yet again proved that he is such an amazing guitarist and even managed a few smiles. Jason did most of that talking to the crowd which is new to me? What i love about Paul's drumming is that its so fluid like. he really is a superb drummer and what a power house. I just love the way you can tell he's from up North just by looking at him  ;D
Ok so highlights...well Comfy as always is a highlight. However my 53rd gig was to be the first with no Mirror Ball. I quick look at how close the stage gantry was to the roof and you could see why. The Fletcher Memorial home was superb but i think i prefer it when Colin sings it.
The lighting and sound crew did a brilliant job and the crowd was really up for it.
All in all it was a great night and the almost capacity crowd enjoyed every minute of it. My only whinge is i miss the intamcy of the old days. The setlists used to be so much more varied as well. Id like to see Sorrow come back and One Slip is an underated Aussie masterpiece.

They certainly are the best tribute band in the world. I have really enjoyed watching them evolve and lony may their reign continue!

Hi all,

I was at the Brighton show last night and it was a great show as ever. I have a couple of videos I am getting ready to upload to Youtube so I will post some links when they are up. In the meantime here are a couple of pictures from the gig.

I will update when the videos are up but I have never put anything on Youtube before so it may take a while.

Ok, I finally got one of the videos on Youtube. This is "Run Like Hell" which was the encore piece:

This is only the second time I have seen them, the first being an outdoor event at Beaulieu in the summer of 2007 and I have taken my 14 year old son to both concerts. We will definately go again and hopefully I won't leave it three years next time

Outstanding lighting design and effects. Outstanding video work ...brilliant musicianship.

Now fellas......bring all that lighting gear to Canada the next time and knock our socks off....we have power!

Great review Greenfloyd. I do also prefer to see Colin on bass, as we are accustomed, it doesn't seem the same without him and we are lucky in the UK that CW does most of the shows. But i'm not taking anything away from Ian's awesome abilities, a great singer and bassist. I too would like to hear Colin sing 'Fletcher' during the show. Just that one song, he does it so well.
It would also show the audience just how many truly capable singers there are in TAPFS, a suprise for newbies around every corner never knowing who will sing next!
