TOPIC: Salt Lake show 09 Oct 2010

Salt Lake show 09 Oct 2010 1 year, 7 months ago #1

I'm excited for the show in Salt Lake at the USANA amphitheater tomorrow night.

;D

It's been rainy the last few days but the storms are headed out of the area and it should be very nice weather for the outdoor show.  I hope a lot of the local Floyd fans will join me.  I'll try to post a review here in a few days.

I've had a copy of the concert ad from City Weekly outside my cubicle wall for weeks now.  People have been asking me if I'm going, and I've been asking them if they want a ride to the show.

Thank goodness the weather looks like it will be good.

BTW, did anyone notice Fender released a Roger Waters P-bass?  I'd like to see one in person and give it a play.

Random thoughts (set list information is in the thread for that purpose but there may be a few spoilers below).

Another enjoyable show and the crowd seems to keep on getting a little bigger each year they come to the Salt Lake area.

Great sunset over the Oquirrh Mountains before the show began.  Cool enough weather with the temperature in the low 50s (farenheit scale that we silly Americans stubbornly insist on using) but dry with little wind.  You definitely wanted more than just a t-shirt (I wore my DSOTM hoodie).  One of the band weathers commented it was a bit of a cold night at the end of the first set.

Crowd just didn't seem inclined to stand much for the show (at least those down in the first few rows of 103 (left side) where our seats were.)  Maybe a bit because of the cooler temps.

Movies were a bit different, than I remember and they seemed to have fewer references to Australia and the kangaroo (perhaps as they are getting ready to become the British PF Show)  But they did have Tie Me Kangaroo Down and Waltzing Matilda during the 'radio surfing' preface to WYWH.

Pigs just absolutely rocks when they play it live. I really don't play that cut of the Animals album as often as some other PF songs but it's a whole different song played live.

Skippy didn't make an appearance but they had the inflatable pig during One of These Days.

Partway through the show, I looked behind me, saw that the seating area were pretty full with people even up on blankets up in the grass seating, and thought to myself "right now we probably have more people all together in one location getting off on Floyd than any other location on the planet" (with the possible exception of a Waters Wall show if there was one that night).

I just love their version of Welcome to the Machine.  Great touch to have the ladies join in the chorus but the song still delivers a lot of power and emotion.

Run Like Hell (been the traditional end to shows ever since The Delicate Sound of Thunder tour just brought the house down as usual and finally got everyone on their feet and clapping.

Hopefully when all the shake up of the 2 bands is over we'll keep on seeing the tour come through Salt Lake and many other parts of the country.
