TOPIC: Learning To Fly

Learning To Fly 5 years, 3 months ago #1

We from the All In All It's Just family wanted to ask you all, most humbly, if you would take a moment to pay respect to a fellow Floydian. He truly loved the music.

Just over a year ago, Len Hawes was diagnosed with lung cancer. He fought it hard, with his family's support, and ultimately brought it to a standstill. He regained much of his health and vitality and had many happy months.

Being a huge supporter of the band, and immensely proud of what Dan had accomplished, he dedicated himself to being the band's Poster Man. Every time the band had a concert close by, he would be out in all weather distributing posters. Nobody could refuse him. Even businesses that never displayed posters for other events would hang one of ours. He didn't take no for an answer.

However, quite often sufferers of lung cancer also develop brain cancer, which is very rapid and quite insidious, and has no treatment nor no cure. Just after last Christmas, his general health and wellbeing started to deteriorate rapidly. The band was gearing up for a series of concerts in the first few weeks of 2007, but under no circumstances would he ever allow the band to cancel a concert because of anything that happened to him.

During the time that the band was performing their concerts in Kelowna, Campbell River and Nanaimo, he went from being mobile at home to being confined to bed in hospital so he could rest more comfortably. On Saturday, the band travelled to Powell River for a concert. During that concert, the band dedicated the song Learning To Fly to him. He loved airplanes, he loved to fly. Early Sunday morning, while the band was overnighting in Powell River, he passed away peacefully.

Please take a moment to silently remember our Dad, a true Floydian.

So so sorry to hear this news. Your message, although sad, is full of pride and ultimately a positive one. You have your fond memories and although it will feel raw just now, time will heal. Just you remember that you all have to strive for greater things with the band because he will be up there watching over you.
God bless and rest in peace Len.
Are we nearly there yet?
