I need to make a correction about my last post. The band I went to see was called "Mortality Sequence" and they are a group of 5 musicians that are members of "All in All. It's Just". They are doing a special project where they play only older Pink Floyd material and last night was their debut performance, and what a night it was.
Three huge lengthy sets, a total of at least 3 1/2 to 4 hrs of material, including STCFTHOTS, Echoes (all 22 minutes!), Pigs, Astronomy Domine, and a complete rendition of Eclipse as performed by Pink Floyd prior to it's final release in 1973 as DSoTM. Plus loads of other big hits from the whole Floyd catalogue, new and old.
I will write a full review in more detail as soon as I can. But this was an outstanding night and is the result of a lot of hard work by 5 very talented and dedicated musicians. To get Echoes that good and that solid is no easy task....and believe me it was outstanding, as was the whole show.
More to follow.
Here's a bit more and maybe someone from the band could post the GIGANTIC set list!
The show had an early Floyd "edgy feel" to it, much like it when the four Floyd lads did a show in 1972. The "stage show" was not there, and the five of them crammed (and I mean crammed) onto a club stage. A great light show considering the smallness of the venue, it certainly had that Floyd feel. A mirror ball and smoke made the Floyd music all sort of atmospheric. It was intimate and personal and very well rehearsed as I have said before. But the magic of that early Floyd rawness was there in droves. In the Flesh and Young Lust had balls, as did all of The Wall stuff. Echoes was the moment of the night though, I mean....how often in life these days can you hear Echoes played live anymore? Damn it was good too. Dan and the boys really worked hard on this monster of a piece and all 22 minutes were first rate. Pigs was also played and Set the controles. The full rendition of Eclipse was most interesting to hear as I have many bootlegs of this piece. The copy of eclipse was excellent, and it was a wonderful treat to hear the piece in it's raw form. Much the same as DSoTM in many ways but ever so different in places to. These differences surprised us as we are all so used to Dark Side and all it's sounds and guitar rifts etc...but this was Eclipse, and well worth the effort! Great Gig had no female voice over....and to be frank I prefere the voice over as Claire Torry did. Instead there was the readings of biblical script barely audible and not understandable (just like the bootlegs) read by some plonker who shall remain un-named! :

This whole experience was a real treat. The crowd was receptive and most appreciative and all 3 1/2 to 4 hrs was very well received.
I wish Mortality Sequence all the very best in their endeavor to bring this early Floyd project to the people of BC. I'll be seeing them again at the end of June when they play as "All in All, It's Just" in Nanaimo BC in a full theater show. If you are reading this and have any doubts about seeing them....don't. Load up your van with a group of friends and get to Nanaimo for their next full show. You won't regret it!
