"All in All, It's Just" played Nanaimo, British Columbia, Canada on Saturday 28th June. Myself and a friend attended this almost packed house at the lovely Port Theatre in Nanaimo that's situated right in the middle of the gorgeous harbour front area in Nanaimo. The sound was great, the music was great, the lighting and videos were great, and a fun time was had by all. The crowd was into the whole scene, and comments about the show were in abundance among the crowd. Clearly this band has a very strong following in Nanaimo, a city of about 80,000 people. Show started right on time and a cheery Dan Hawes came out with the 8 piece band and welcomes the crowd of eager beavers (we're Canadian after all) and off we went with the following set list........

Act one.

Is there anybody out there. (a really cool start with wonderful effects)
In the flesh
Astronomy Domine
Happiest days.... Brick in the wall pt 2
One of my turns
See Emily play
Have a cigar
Keep talking
Mother
High Hopes
Hey you
Shine on you crazy Diamond (Pts 1-5)

Act Two

Speak to me
Breathe
On the run
Time
Breathe reprise
Great gig in the sky
Money
Us and them
Any colour you like
Brain damage
Eclipse
Young lust
Wish you were here
On the turning away
Learning to fly

Encore

Comfortably numb
Run like hell.

Comment of the night for me came from a woman sitting next to me with her two kids and hubby. "Oh my God" she said and grabbed her husband hand as Kelly broke into GGITS. My friend had a wonderful time and so did I. The theatre needed some more cool air as it was a very warm summers evening and the air conditioning seemed to be not working. But the whole experience was all very very cool otherwise! The show went off well with only minor hiccups that didn't deter the fun for the very enthusiastic audience.

I was waiting outside the back stage area pre show....and there was this massive and very expensive tour bus parked at the stage entrance...Hmmm I though, Dan Hawes and the band are doing very well. Haaaaa of course I was wrong about the bus, as the multi million dollar bus belonged to the "Mathew Good band" who were in town also.

Had an enjoyable quick hello with everyone back stage pre show, and went into the theatre for the last part of the sound check. I love these moments, and they are fascinating to watch. My friend also really enjoyed this too and the 1/2 hr we spent watching this pre show sound check was a first for him.....and most enjoyable.

Thanks for a great night out to all of you. I'll be baaack, and good luck on your summer touring!
