I've not seen this band before but in the interests of trying to support any or all Pink Floyd tribute bands that I can, Keats and I, along with approximately 200 other souls, had a wander down to 'the seaside' and had £17.50's worth.

It's never a hardship going to a gig at the Leas Cliff. A tired old relic of a building from about the 1930's, literally clinging to the side of the cliff, it may be, but it just does it for me. A standing venue for this type of gig of course, which is my preferred choice.

The band emanate from the South West of England and for this performance comprised of 7 members. 5 guys covering drums, lead guitar, bass guitar, saxophones and, the 'main man' who was on keyboards, guitars and vocals (quite a punishing schedule, but he acquitted himself very well) and 2 female backing vocalists. I thought that the set list was very well constructed:-

Shine On
Astronomy Domine
Set The Controls
Fat Old Sun
Have A Cigar
One Of These Days
Echoes

----interval----

Dark Side Of The Moon
Wish You Were Here

----encore----

In The Flesh
Brick Part 1
Happiest Days
Brick Part 2
Comfortably Numb
Run Like Hell

Equipment wise it was, to some extent, like watching an APFS from way back. There was an adequate lighting rig with lasers and a circular mr screen (about 2-3metres diameter) with images projected onto it. I don't mean that disrespectfully to In The Flesh - it's just that in my opinion that is where they fit into the evolutionary thing of Pink Floyd tribute bands. After all, it's only what you should expect when a band is playing to 200 people at £17.50 a head. Thing is, it felt right in the enviroment of last night and they pulled it off very well.

The video content was highly topical and right on the button. For Money, we got images of the Houses of Parliament spliced with appropriate newspaper headlines of the MP's expenses debacle together with images of pigs with their snouts in troughs.  ;D

A very moving section for Us and Them that showed the very worst excesses of gluttony and so called high society spliced with shameful images of the poorest and hungriest of our fellow human beings.

During Wish You Were Here images of a number of musicians who are no longer with us were played onto mr screen, climaxing unsurprisingly, with Syd and Rick.

All very well done and perfectly synchronised with the lyrics of the songs.

When the band came back to perform the encore - which turned out to be a 'mini Wall suite' - they had changed into black trousers and shirts (with red armbands and crossed hammer sewn on patches) together with black 'bovver' boots. They looked just the part and it was very effective.

I liked this band. They played well and performed a set list that ticked the boxes for me. Great Gigs new most favourite instrument (see earlier In The Flesh threads) was in evidence, although it didn't bug me as it had him.    There's no point in comparing other tribute bands to TAPFS - the aussies are in a league of their own in my opinion - better to say to yourself at the end of the evening, did I have a good night out for a ticket price that I was happy to pay listening to my favourite music? The answer for me last night was a definite yes, and I shall look out for In The Flesh again in the future.

Thanks Mike, Leeds Irish Centre is a possibility but a Thursday is not good for me at the moment. I shall have to see what happens with work.

I've just been on their web site and the Leeds gig is not showing.

However, it was on the flyer that I got through the post a couple of weeks ago!!

Sorry if I've inadvertently misled anyone.  :-[
