Sound @ the venue is very good – on the stage level is standing room only – if you want to sit in the bar you have to pony up $ 350 for a bottle, yikes. Upstairs they sometimes have dining, but the sound sort of blows. I stood in the bar and the sound was very impressive. They went on @ 10:30 after a few other bands which I did not catch played. To me I cannot stand other acts except for maybe zepagain, I guess everyone has to start somewhere but I would rather show up, here pf and leave.
Animals was first on the list and I thought it was good, not mind blowing but very good. To me the mix was not spot on – some of the material john should have been much more forward vs paul and the drums. I also think john sometimes needs more time to warm up than paul. I know I know, it’s easy to be an arm chair reviewer.
After the 10 minute break it had to be one of the more scorching sets I have ever seen the guys do, just fooking off the hook amazing – the mix was dialed in and much better. The whole deal was louder. Just great, totally what I was hoping for, just outstanding in every way.
For me and I have said this before, I think the bands strength lies in doing the older less popular material – if I hear the beginning of money or time again I am going to shoot myself. Myself I have to hear paul do one of these days everytime I hear the band, it’s a requirement. paul and john are so flipping hot I cannot decide who I like better, lucky I don’t have to. Run like hell was also done to perfection, might have been one of the best I have heard them pump out. young lust was the $hit, total hotness. The stuff that paul does really puts me in mood, he is a treasure. John is always hot, so what, lol.
My other half took a nap and could not get up at 9 to save her life so I went stag, I ran into a bunch of young musicians in their 20’s that have not heard w1p ever – I sort of gave them the rundown, did not put too much of a sales pitch on them and I later saw them after animals and they were elated, just flying on how good the band was – I can only imagine where they were @ after the second set – some of them are playing the viper in a few weeks, I will have to see what they thought.
Good times – thanks again Dan and company for playing the tunes with integrity and for keeping this great music alive!
