Roger Waters - Hyde Park Calling.
Saturday 1st July 06
Brief Review:
Well I thought it was a stunning show and much as it grieves me to say it, maybe even better than DG's Royal Albert Hall shows. Let's see tomorrow though, when the euphoria has worn off.....
Rogers band was exceptional, with very tight performances from all, the lead guitar, Dave Kilminster was exceptional (IMHO). I thought the sound overall was perfect, but I was lucky enough to be in the middle and very near the front. It was loud too, just how I like it!
This was more like a Pink Floyd gig than any others I have seen in the last few years, I expect mainly because he did the whole of DSoTM. The Great Gig was to die for, Mica Paris eat your heart out - that's how it should be done!!! I was crying during this! And the encore, well.......two guitars duelling in Comfortably Numb............ what can I saw, truly fantastic.
Nick Mason also played the entire second half of the show and the encores too and did he look a happy boy! The reception he got as he came on was very moving - Nick's just an all round nice guy and a great drummer to boot. It was a touching moment at the end of the show too, when they stood together arm in arm.

Set - List (pretty sure this is right?)
Start time: 7.45pm - Finish: 10.20pm
First half: In The Flesh, Mother, Set the Controls for the Heart of the Sun, Shine On You Crazy Diamond, Have A Cigar, Wish You Were Here, Southampton Dock, The Fletcher Memorial Home, Perfect Sense Pt's I & II, Leaving Beruit, Sheep.
Second half: ~ The Dark Side of the Moon ~
Encore: The Happiest Days of Our Lives, Another Brick in The Wall (Pt II), Vera, Bring the Boys Back Home, Comfortably Numb.
So what else went on? Well he got a little political (like he does) and had a real pop at George Bush and Tony Blair. Quotes like The proud British Bulldog is now a poodle to a dirty mongrel, or words to that effect. And that his childhood Texas education must have really f***ed him up! The crowd seemed to like it and I agree whole heartedly with the sentiment, just not sure of the forum to air it?
All in all though, this was a fantastic show with pyrotechnics, banks of lights, a big floating astronaut and huge plumes of flame during the encores, the heat they chucked out was phenomenal. The whole deal was (nearly) on the scale of a 90's Floyd gig - the closest thing I have seen since Earl's Court and I think the most enjoyable gig I have been to since then - roll on P.U.L.S.E. DVD on the 10th July? Well done Roger, the boy done good.
~ Great Gig ~
PS. The funniest thing I saw was after the show, when 3 beefy security guards were struggling with a half naked drunk guy, who was interupted by them during his BJ (yep, you read that right)............ and boy , he was not happy "I want my BJ, I want my BJ"!!! But this was in the middle of the auditorium, with people walking by
Not a brilliant photo I am afraid, just from my crappy mobile. One day I will take my camera!
