......guitar solos......?????

***********************************************************************

Apologies if this has been done before, but hey, do we ever get tired of talking about it?????

So, what are Gilmours finest moments????

Clearly Comfortably Numb takes gold, but surely Time and Fletcher are there too. And the end of Pigs (3DO's). On The Turning Away is pretty mean too.

I know that's 5, but I'm indecisive.

Probably.

I've always been one to complain that everyone's too quick to cite Comfortably Numb as the best solo.  Get off the bandwagon already!

I much prefer the original Time solo over CN.  I've always found the solo at the end of Pigs (TDO) to be a little "antisceptic", having listened to every show from the 1977 tour, where Gilmour would play some blinders (Montreal especially).

If we ignore the usual suspects then, I like the stuff he used to play live in Embryo and Echoes back in 1971.  If we're only going on studio albums, then I suppose I could mention Sorrow and even Fletcher Memorial Home, which is a much better crafted solo than people give it credit for.

OK, bored of this now.  Next!
Be very very careful what you put into that head, because you will never ever get it out. Thomas Cardinal Wolsey (1471-1530)

I personally don't feel at ease with the "this is better than that concept".
I enjoy anything that Gilmour does with a guitar, he has a most unique sound and style.

I've always loved Floyd, but it took me a very long time to realise how bloody good DG really is. The structure, composition, arrangement and really great tunes were never in doubt, but I've only more recently come to fully appreciate just how incredibly good he is technically - I don't don't why, but that passed me by for a long time. Just listen to anyone that tries to play his stuff (e.g. Rog's band that we were all listening to last night) and it becomes apparent.

This also makes me realise how good Damian and Steve are. They do faithfully recreate the feeeeeeeeel every time. I don't ever listen to either of them and think they're not quite hitting the spot, like I do with other tributes (apologies to our W1P and CE members, I've only heard clips so I can't really judge).

So, the best solo? No idea, I don't think Floyd is really about solos, so I've not thought about it before.
