TOPIC: Just purchased The Division Bell

Just purchased The Division Bell 5 years, 6 months ago #1

Hello everybody

Well I have been telling myself to spread my Floyd studio album purchaes to 1 every few weeks....but I found TDB on sale plus a discount on top of that...so I had to buy it.......This is my 5th floyd studio album....

anyways, i like the album alot....i have give it a few listen throughs, some of the songs I was introduced to live from the PULSE album.....

Its a softer more mellow album, which I dont mind, I really dig Davids vocals on Poles Apart, and i also I dig Rick's song....on first listen I thought it was a little strange, but the 3rd time it clicked for me, just took me a few listents to get use to his vocals.....Marooned is superb, and I have notice a trend where I have liked every Floyd instrumental I have heard......Take it back is my favorite song on the album and holds some memories for me

Coming back to life sounds better here then the live version for my liking.....I really like Lost for Words....just dig that song....I like how it closes the album with High Hopes....which is my 2nd favorite song on the album......

I read the Rolling Stone review and they just didnt like the album, I think the guy who reviewed it is a moron...Its a really good album.....

anyways, Now I have Meddle, WYWH, Animals, AMLOR, and The Division Bell....9 more studio albums to go ;D......I have narrowed my next Floyd studio album down to 3 choices, either Piper, wall or the final cut.......with Piper having a slight edge because I am dying to hear some Syd songs.....

wahey jeff! division bell is one of my favourites i must say, my favourite on that album and my favourite gilmour solo is high hopes, it is the best solo he has ever written and the tone is immense. What do you want from me is awesome aswell as keep talking. The guitar is ridiculously powerful, especially in the soloey breaks in what do you want. I love the break down in that song the most haha!
i agree rolling stone reviewer is a moron! i love taht album. Did you like meddle? again awesome!
The next album on jeffs list according to jon (me daleyvid gilmour) is piper. Opens with my 3rd fave floyd song astronomy domine and has some other great songs like the gnome, chapter 24 and of course interstellar overdrive!
The wall is great but its too commercial, i love it so though! Final cut ive had for a good year and i still havent properly got into it, i dont really like it, fletcher memorial home etc not my cup of tea!
Guitar playing, Gilmour loving, psychological, philosophical individual

Good on you Jeff although I can't help but saying though that I preferred the long wait, sometimes for years, between Floyd albums. this heightened the pleasure for me when they eventually arrived. Don't get me wrong Jeff, if I was in your shoes now I would be like a kid in a sweet shop but if I was to give any advice it would be to consider leaving a few months between purchasing albums and to savour each one. These albums will still be here in years to come.
Are we nearly there yet?

One thing I would advise you to do is get hold of a bootleg or two from the 1970-1973 era (myself, Phil and Bob can help you in that respect).

The recorded versions of Careful With That Axe Eugene leave a lot to be desired.  And the one on Ummagumma isn't one of my favourites.
Be very very careful what you put into that head, because you will never ever get it out. Thomas Cardinal Wolsey (1471-1530)
