TOPIC: Definitive PF song????

Definitive PF song???? 5 years, 2 months ago #1

If conceivable, what would you say is the definitive Pink Floyd song?

I'd vote for "Have a Cigar".

What's your interpretation of 'definitive' Rob?

Are you talking 'favourite', 'musicianship', 'what makes the hairs on the back of your neck stand up' etc. etc.

In my little world... I'd say the song that "epitomizes" Pink Floyd to you.

Have a Cigar, for me, sums-up the Pink Floyd sound... the vocal harmony, the music (especially guitar & keyboard), the sounds... all definitive Pink Floyd.

Maybe that's because it was the first song that I tagged (in my mind) as a Pink Floyd song.  For some it may be Astronomy Domine or Another Brick in the Wall because that's first Pink Floyd song that they identified with.... I dunno.

Good question. For me it would be any track that as soon as you hear that Dave Gilmour sound you go " Aaaaaahhhhhh". To narrow it down I think I would go for SOYCD.

For those of us who were about at the bands beginning it has to be  Astronomy Domine. Everything else that the band produced is just a bonus.

I'm only 35 so for me it's something a little more recent.

The first song I ever really identified with PF was bricks 2 - i would have been 8 at the time, however this isn't my definative track but my 1st track.

In later years the appeal of this song led me to explore their other work and in particular DSOTM. So for me the "definative" track is Time for the following reasons.

The lyrics - poetry IMHO
The guitar solo
And the story & message it tells which I think is fantastic and now that I'm a little older I can identify with a little more than in my youth.
