Never knew it was going to be on but flicking through the channels yesterday, I came across "Sounds Of The Sixties" on BBC4, and an oooolllldd B&W clip of Pink Floyd with Syd Barrett performing Astronomy Domine. I dunno if they did any others, I think it was just the one, cos they were followed by Joe Cocker & Jimi Hendrix, both doing one each.

The presenter did a little interview with them afterwards, basically saying it's good music, but berating the fact they used amplifiers and asking why does it have to be so loud!

Poor bloke doesn't appreciate good music....

Yes, but it was the sixites.  The older generation were still pining for dance hall/orchestra/big band stuff - the stuff they grew up listening to on the wireless.

Rock and roll was alien to them, and what father doesn't shout up the stairs to his 15-year-old brat today, "turn that bloody racket off!"?
