TOPIC: Learning to fly

Learning to fly 4 years, 8 months ago #1

Does anyoune know how learning to fly came about?  The cover of the album has a hang glider on it and they sure seem to be singing about hang gliding.

There are only two types of music.   Floyd... and all that other stuff.

I remember David doing a radio interview at the time this came out. He said that many Floyd songs are multi layered and not necessarily about anything in particular. The learning to fly bit touched on the fact that David and Nick were indeed pilots and at the time shared a plane.
Are we nearly there yet?

I think I read somewhere that Learning To Fly was about Dave taking over as sole leader of the band and carrying on as Pink Floyd without Roger.
Hanging on in quiet desperation.....

Didn't it start with the Wright brothers?

Rick and Orville I think their names were.
Be very very careful what you put into that head, because you will never ever get it out. Thomas Cardinal Wolsey (1471-1530)

Hrmmm... where did you read that?  That sounds like an interesting interpretation, but I'll bet it started as a rumor.
Ashes and diamonds, foe and friend...we were all equal in the end.
