Imagine if the four original members got back together just for one last album, I wonder what it would sound like? Would it be like the early stuff now that RW seems to have made peace with himself? Or would it still have that RW edginess/darkness to it like the later albums? This is just one of those idle thoughts you get when sitting quietly at nearly 2.00am in the morning btw.
Personally, I think it would sound pretty awful. I know, that sounds really, really bad coming from a Pink Floyd nut, but hear me out. As much as I love Roger Waters' post-Floyd work, and as much as I love Pink Floyd's post-Waters work, I think they have grown far enough apart that they aren't even similar anymore, and just wouldn't "click". I personally think they've each gotten better without the other. I know I'll take some heat for this, but my favorite Pink Floyd albums are
A Momentary Lapse Of Reason and
The Division Bell...likewise, my favorite Roger Waters album is definitely
Amused To Death. I think it was just meant to be that way, but I've wondered the same things myself before... what it would sound like and all... I just think I would probably be disappointed by the result, as my standards for Pink Floyd are so high that they probably couldn't be topped. :-
