Of course, like any good Floydian, I snuck out of the office just in time to run to the local music shop and pick up my copy of Gilmour's new DVD the minute it came out (at least here, anyhow).  For me, it seemed much more impressive on the DVD than in the theater (I was disappointed by the premiere...maybe I went to the wrong theater).  Echoes, in particular, brought back memories of the awesome concert I saw at the Rosemont in Chicago.  For me, it was a memoir, but I digress...David Gilmour made one comment in particular at the North American premiere which I very much disagreed with:  In response to Phil Manzanera's question as to whether the video "captured the magic" of what it was like to be there, David said "yes."  In my opinon, it didn't come close.  Don't get me wrong--it was awesome, but no video could ever capture the feeling of what it was like to actually be there.  :-\

Your thoughts? ???

What do you think he was going to say... no? Nothing beats witnessing an event live as it happens.

When I saw Dave in California, I found myself closing my eyes and just listening to the music and then quickly opening them realizing that... this is David Gilmour standing right in front of me, I better keep my eyes open because I'll probably never see him in person again.
Hanging on in quiet desperation.....

Well no dvd will ever capture the atmosphere of a live performance IMHO, however where this dvd works (for me anyway) is in the absolute craftsmanship between all the musicians. What does come across, particularly in the documentary following the tour from Bray Studio's to Gdansk is that it was an enjoyable tour for all concerned and seemed (to me) to be more of a family holiday rather than a rock band on tour. Also did anybody get a feeling of Deja Vu when they played Echoes at that restored Roman amphitheatre?

Agree with Andy here, no DVD will ever recreate a live event, I think this is highlighted (for me anyway) with the Pulse DVD, yes it's good but there is just no way it is anything like the experience of being in that crowd, the atmosphere, the sound, the lighting just don't come over on DVD no matter how good your audio/visual system is.

As I did not attend the RTN concerts , and now wishing I had, then the DVD is all I have and it is very good, but I know if I had been there then it would have been a different story.

This DVD just could not be any better. It's pure bliss. David Gilmour should be very proud of what he has created. He is a rock music legend and has become an iconic musician in his own lifetime. How much better could it be than that..

Standing ovation from me David. Thanks a lot for everything.

(well....he might read this one day when he has nowt else to do!)
