Went to see Tool last night at Nott'm arena and what a fantastic night it was.

Tool played from start to finish with perfect timing, in fact it was amazing how this was done, for anyone who knows Tool's music you will know what I'm on about here.

The sound was fantastic and the lighting was again timed to perfection with projections and lasers, Ive never seen this group live before so did not know what to expect, and lets just say that I was blown away by the shear power (it was bloody loud, my ears are just recovering 24hrs later )and accuracy of this performance, I will, without a doubt go and see Tool again.

The only let down was the jobsworth security on the doors, body searching EVERYONE that entered, I took my digital camera(very small Fuji F30) with me and they wanted to take that off me 'can't let you in with that sir' I had a right go at the guy on the door, but he was your usual dummy, so asked to see his manager, he would not budge. 'You can deposit the camera in a locker' followed but there was no way this camera was being left anywhere out of my site, if it was to be I wanted a signed receipt with time and date on, they only wanted to give you a token, bugger that. So I passed the camera to my mate around a security barrier, that solved that one.

The stupid thing about the camera was that EVERYONE had mobiles with cameras on, when I went through security again(after passing the camera over to my mate) the guy wanted to look at my PHONE, I told him it was a camera phone and capable of recording video, he said as long as I kept it switched off then I'd be OK, I asked him what if I wanted to use it to make a call ,he said this would be OK as long as I didn't use the phone for taking photos. Who makes these stupid rules up ??? ???.  Needless to say during the concert you could see mobile phones lighting up everywhere, the bloody security were pointing very bright torches in peoples eyes who were taking photo's, I just find this whole thing a complete farce, you take photo's to treasure the memory, don't you.

So if you do goto Nottingham arena just remember the security is tighter that a ducks arse, you will not get cameras into the place, infact there was a girl in front of me with some form of medication, the security wanted to take this off her until she told them it was essential medication that could need at any time. ALL handbags were being taken off people, the ironic thing was that to use the lockers it would have cost you ?2 an item, I smell a money making racket here

i hate that rule of "yes you can take mobiles in but not camera's" it is exactly te same as taking a phone in as you can take photos and videos. They will want everyone to dust off the cobwebs from thier Nokia 3310's next to avoid photo capabilities next! grr!!!

You may recall that I have said before that I think Nottingham arena is a crap venue.
In my experience the staff there go out of their way to treat paying customers as badly as possible. Add that to the fact that all that metal in the roof does its best to spoil the sound. If you are then lucky enough to have enjoyed a good gig then the band performing must have been very special indeed.
A friend of mine telephoned me the other day very excitedly telling me about seeing TOOL at Manchester. His comments mirrored the reviews posted by the above two gentlemen.

I received a phone call and an email 1 week before the Wembley show informing me not to take recording equipment into the venue as it will be confiscated.
I think it was on the bands request, but obviously the staff are likely to interpret it differently at each venue.

I missed Mastodon, whilst queuing to get in, they were searching everyone.

Enigma, you didn't miss much with Mastodon, we sat and watched them for around 10-15 Min's but they seemed to loose the plot somehow. Their sound was truly terrible, this maybe down to what Bigdog was saying, but they did seem to get very jumbled up during a couple of openers so we popped out for a swift one Tool's sound was spot on.

Theres a few photo's on my link in my sig now, there pretty crap as I could not mess with the camera during the show due to the risk of being chucked out >

I personally would not go back to Nott'm Arena, maybe thats why Aussie Floyd don't play there, it just all seems very petty.
