OK then, you asked for it...
I would like to point out now that I'm not usually into such naff pop music but when my best mate from school said she had a spare ticket for The Spice Girls I just thought it would be a laugh and a bit of harmless fun, and of course the opportunity to meet up with some old chums that I'd not seen since my last day at school.
It was the first time I'd been to the O2/dome thing and it's quite aesthetically impressive. Plenty of bright lights and stuff to keep you looking around and take a few photos. Inside there's a cinema and an ice rink along with about a million places to stuff your face, if you can bear wasting time in the queues that is. My friends were driving from the west country so I'd arranged to meet them just inside the arena (as I'm now a fully fledged Londoner!)
We had something to eat and then made our way to our seats. Now, we stopped off for a drink along the way (bottles of water all round) and what I'd like to know is why do they insist on taking the lids off the plastic bottles? Is it because we might be tempted to use them as missiles and throw them at the performers? If so, what would stop us throwing the actual bottle or the contents of our handbags at them? Bizarre indeed.
The seats were very high up and to be honest it was messing with my head a bit. I'm not usually bothered by heights and I don't know if it's because I'm getting older but I did have problems with being so high up looking down on a lot of people that were quite a way down. I was glad that I was on the end of the row with no one sat behind me and a rail that I could grab hold of when I stood up again. What a wuss!
The lights went down and so ensued an ear-shattering bout of screaming. I just sat in my seat and tutted. The girls appeared all dressed in gold spangly numbers and belted out "Spice Up Your Life" followed by 'Stop Right Now', 'I'm Giving You Everything' and their new song 'Headlines'. All with lots of dancing and many male dancers prancing about wearing not a lot. A few more songs and then came Neil's bestest Spice Girl song so I just had to call him and let him feel the love as '2 Become 1' was performed. A few more songs and then Posh did some weird catwalk thing and mouthed the word 'WOW' over and over, it was all quite strange. Baby performed her solo song 'Maybe' and Scary sang a bad version of Lenny Kravitz's 'Are You Gonna Go My Way' whilst subjecting some unsuspecting chap to a lapdance in front of thousands. I think he quite enjoyed it from the look on his face. My friends were standing up and dancing but I couldn't, even if I didn't have a problem with the height thing I still wouldn't have joined in, I'm too reserved for such behaviour. The song I like the most was next which is 'Viva Forever' and afterwards I noticed Ginger had disappeared whilst the others performed 'Holler', I'm guessing this was because she had left the group by the time they released that song. This gave her the opportunity to change for a solo song of hers and she sang 'It's Raining Men'. She did not sing this live, no way, uh huh, nope. I can't say for sure but I think most of the performance was sung live, well, all of Baby's, Sporty's and Scary's parts anyway. Lots more songs followed and Mel C sang her solo song 'I Turn To You'. There was no interval which was pretty good going as there were around 16/17 songs in all. The Encore included of course 'Wannabe'.
And that was that really. A good night of entertainment. Oh and every time Posh was on the big screen there were loads of big cheers, they all love her. I'd also like to bring to your attention that there were loads of men there too and all ages. Just one other thing, David Beckham was in the audience too, not that I care of course.
