Jethro Tull - Bournemouth Pavilion 16th April
Not sure who the fans are here, but I know Hippie is! I went to see Tull on Wednesday and what a fantastic show they put on. Ian Anderson has lost none of his impish style and remains a very charismatic and charming entertainer.
The tour marks the bands 40th Anniversary and highlights a lot of their early material. The show was at the Bournemouth Pavilion, a great old style theatre/music hall originally built in the 1920's that seats 1012 people. It's a fantastic venue for concerts, especially bands like Tull. I had a seat 3 rows from the front on the aisle, so I had a good position.
On stage just after 7.30 pm and the set-list is below - the surprises were Clive Bunker on stage for some songs and a guy called Paul Forrest who is from the Tull tribute band the Dayglo Pirates www.myspace.com/thedayglopirates Really good likeness for early Anderson - somebody caught him on camera and there is a YouTube video Surprisingly good and he even sounds like Ian! I thought it was a fantastic compliment to allow him to perform on stage and he looked well made up. The duo at the end he did with Ian for Locomotive Breath was fantastic. Some knocked it on YouTube, but I thought it was a brilliant idea and I loved it.......
Martin Barre was on top form indeed and Ian kept everyone entertained with anecdotes between the songs - quite an entertainer even now. Particularly good choices I thought were Farm on the Freeway, Serenade to a Cuckoo with CB, A New day Yesterday, TAAB and of course Aqualung and Locomotive Breath. Dharma for One was also very good, with small duo drum solo's from both CB and DP

There was a 25 minute interval half way, so we had 2 half's of around an hour - finished just after 10.00pm. A great show and I am thinking of going to the Royal Festival Hall next month to see them again, been playing Benefit a lot lately, still one of my fav Tull albums. What does seem to be good about this tour is that there are lot's of little surprises - special guests and little tweaks to the setlist, so it would be worth seeing them again, as the show won't be exactly the same. It's also the last night in London, so could be a goodie - hope there are still tickets?
If they are near you (Bigdog they are in Peterborough), then GO, you will thank me.....

I saw them in the late '80s, they went in for lots of stage theatrics (illusions etc) do they still do that?
I was playing taab in the car today, top stuff.
Not this time, just the music and the inclusion of the special guests - I have to say it's one of the most enjoyable concerts I have seen for some time. Ian Anderson is a consumate professional and a bloody nice guy to boot! Martin Barre is an exceptional guitarist too. TAAB, ahh what a great album.......
