I must admit, this gig at Sheffield was much better than the Nottingham gig and that was fantastic. ;D ;D
You could tell right from the start that improvements in the sound quality had been addressed, you could actually hear Swords' singer and this also applied to Machine Head, making their performance more enjoyable.
The atmosphere was electric by the time Metallica entered the stage, the place erupted with the opening number That Was Just Your Life blasting from the PA, the band then run through roughly the same set list as Nottingham but with The Unforgiven thrown in. ;D
Metallica seemed more comfortable with themselves tonight, maybe they were a little nervous at Nottingham with it being the first gig of the tour, the band seemed to gel together better. The pyrotechnics were used more, the lighting seemed better and the PA was vastly improved, much clearer and heavier than Nottingham, but this could have been down to seating positions, again my ears are still ringing, a thoroughly enjoyable night was had by all 12000 people at this concert.
I managed to take around 200 photo's and some video at the concert, I am yet to sort through them and upload to Photo bucket, but when I have you are all welcome to view them, just click the link in my sig, the album will be called Metallica Sheffield Arena 09.
Hopefully they will tour again in the next couple of years and don't leave it another 13 odd years again.
