I've seen 'Whole Lotta Led' a couple of times, not bad, however I have heard great things about 'Letz Zep'
and last night went to see them at the Bedford Corn Exchange.
First of all, having seen TAPFS at Bournemouth just two nights before, we get spoilt as to the size of the show,
the brilliant musicianship and easy to forget the Aussies are infact a 'tribute'. There were only about 120 in the
hall last night and on entering, I was shocked at the minimal amount of equipment! Entering TAPFS gigs, seeing Steve Mac's
gear, Mr.Screen etc, we tend to take it for granted and forget other bands have much smaller set ups!
Letz Zep have virtually the same gear as Led Zep had, but they also put a lot into 'looking' like Plant, Page, Jones
and Bonham. It is uncanny seeing 'Plant' strut his stuff ( hitting the right notes too) with 'Page' on his trademark double neck,
with big 'John Bonham' thundering away at the back with 'Jones' just concentrating on doing his job.
When they started with 'Rock n Roll', I thought what a waste of time and money - it was very amateur, not tight, sound mix
not too good. But by the second and third numbers they were really together and for the rest of the 2 and 1/4 hour set ( no break),
awesome drummer ( Moby Dick solo fantastic just like Bonzo) and 'John Paul Jones' brilliant on bass & keyboards.
Highlights for me were Kashmir, Moby Dick, Dazed & Confused ( Jimmy using violin bow), the acoustic section including
'That's the Way' and blues numbers such as Since I've been Loving You. Of course they included Stairway, Whole Lotta Love and
an interesting choice for the encore was 'The Ocean' followed by 'Immigrant Song'.
The lightshow was adequate considering this is not Floyd and well worth seeing ( entry was ?12), providing you catch them on
a good night as last night was (forgetting the first song)! Like the Aussies, the original members Page and Plant have been to see them.
Their website needs looking at, a bit more of a professional approach, however there are a few clips and photos on there:
