Let me make it clear that this is in no way a complaint or any critiscm at all .... just a request for help.

Has anybody else composed a message on the forum, hit the word post and then found that their message has been lost? Also, has anybody else been 'timed out' despite having only been logged on for a short period i.e. 10-15 minutes.

As some of you already know, I'm not the sharpest tool in the box when it comes to matters computing, at least with forums etc., but both of the above events have occured 3 or 4 times recently and I don't know why. I'm not doing anything differently. Same software and hardware at my end incidently. The only clue I can offer, with regard to the lost post thing, is that when I get back in after losing the post I have found that someone else posted at virtually the same time - is that relevant?

It's not the end of the world of course but any help would be much appreciated please.

Well, the missing posts - pass.  That's an SQL thing I think.

The timing out COULD be because your browser is deleting the cookie which stores your login information, but I doubt that's the actual reason.

I'd imagine it's the forum software ...

Mike

Sorry you are having problems. I have to say that I am not deeply technical with the software we use on here, I use it because it's free, and of the free stuff available, SMF has one of the better reputations. In short, I really don't know why it sometimes times out.

I do have a workaround, though. Whenever I have spent a while composing a post, just before I click the Post button I copy it to the clipboard. You can do this by typing Ctrl A (hold down the control key and then press A) to select all the text, then Ctrl C to copy it to the clipboard. Takes a fraction of a second to do, and if it then goes tits up, start a new post and in the text area type Ctrl V to copy the contents of the clipboard back to your new post.

I hope this helps.
