TOPIC: Censored words list

Censored words list 5 years, 10 months ago #1

There seems to be a lot of differing opinion about whether we should have a censored words list or not, so I'm putting it to the vote. I'll run the poll for 3 days, then go with the majority.

It was initially turned on because our esteemed moderator felt that because we have a number of young members, we should automatically exclude profane content. On the other hand, the internet is full of it, so should it be left to parents to exercise controls at home rather than impose censorship on the content itself? It's your forum, you decide.

To a degree we all, you must agree, self censor.
I find the act of censorship in its self offensive.
Who has the right to say to me," Ive decided you cant say that because some imaginary person in an unknown location may be offended ."
At the same time gratuitous use of foul language is just plain boring.
I live in the real world !

I have voted 'No'

If 'No' is carried and anyone became offensive I would rely on Nick and/or H to have a word in their ear. If that was ignored other sanctions could follow e.g. closing of accounts etc.

I believe that self control by each of us as members is the best course of action, but if that was tried and was found to be unsatisfactory then I would support the re-introduction of a censored word list.

I voted no.
Be very very careful what you put into that head, because you will never ever get it out. Thomas Cardinal Wolsey (1471-1530)
