Back in April, whilst travelling to an Australian Pink Floyd gig I might add, I had the misfortune to pass a speed camera at 39 miles per hour in a 30 zone.  The zone had, until recently been 40 mph but they didn't make it clear that they'd changed it.  Bastards.

Over the weeend I got my "Conditional Offer" letter from the Metropolitan Police where they politely informed me that I had two choices:

Pay a ?60 fine and send my licence in to get 3 points added to it, OR

Go to court, plead not guilty, get found guilty (because I can't prove I was going under 39mph and there are no technicalities I can get off on) and pay a ?1000 fine and get 6 points on my licence (and, hence, a criminal record of sorts).

Bastard police.  I bet they've caught hundreds of people at that junction since they put the speed limit down (for no reason either - it's not even a built-up area).

Anyone on here getting close to 12 points and disqualification by any chance?

Only 6 at the moment. I'll be worried if I get another one, though.

The points disappear after two or three years don't they?

aye they do, right i was wondering if you go to court firstly can they prove you were going 39miles an hour because if they cant, you can just say that they are wasting your time or they could use police time better. there is no case if theres no proof.
This happened to me in a driving lesson in which I was going 35 in a 30 zone, in which a police car pulled me over and told me i was speeding, in which i just replied, I was going the right speed and when they told me i was speeding, i said where is the speed gun with 35 miles on it and not to waste there own time when i was not speeding haha, after 10minutes i was off with it!
just be calm and dont lose your rag! but might i add, they must have saw i had my L plates on and That they might have been a bit lighter on me.
and yes points do fade after a few years!

I'm not sure I have the time or inclination to take it to court when the chances are they'll produce the photo from the camera and I'll get done for a lot more cash.

It costs a lot more to produce the paperwork for a court case and a photo, ask to see the photo because you don't know where you where 2 days ago never mind in April!
