OK, I want to try an experiment.

This thread is going to be about a certain topic of conversation.  The aim is to see how long we can all make relevant, informative and insightful additions to this thread before someone posts an something "off-topic".

Examples of going off-topic include (but are not limited to):

* material not considered pertinent to the subject (given reasonable leaway)
* a post full of smileys
* a post expressing an opinion not in any way related to the subject
* posts mentioning Vodka (unless the topic is alcohol-related)
* posts highlighting innuendo in something someone previously said
* quoting a long post with "I agree" on the bottom - try to use your brain to think of something more

Now, don't be tempted to reply to my first post with a hilarious off-topic effort in an ill-advised attempt to be "funny" (Fossil and Andy K, I'm looking at you).  Try as hard as you can to keep it on-topic and I want to see how long we can keep it up for (see, it's harder than you think - wahey! etc etc)

I will be judging the posts and as soon as I consider that we've gone off-topic I'll say so.  I want to manage at least 20 posts.  I don't rate your chances, people.

The topic of this thread is .... CARS.

I'll begin.

I don't have a car.  This is because I live in London and I consider such transport to be superfluous to my needs.

I do, however drive my girlfriend's car at weekends when I'm at her place, but she lives right on the edge of south west London, where it's not so busy.

Do you have a car or not?

I do have a car, it's getting rather old but it's a good car. Peugeot 205 and although I like it enough to give it a name "red" I don't like to drive it as I'd rather be on a bike. Unfortunately I have a problem in that I don't have a bike licence (but hubby does) and so have to drive the car to work. Thankfully it's only 6 miles away. I'd use public transport but as I'm out in the sticks it's just not an option.

Hubby also has a car (309) but at the moment it's sat on the drive with no MOT or tax as he rides his bike come rain or shine. When it comes to insuring it, we'll probably get rid of it.

I do have a great pet hate for 4 x 4's when not used to their full potential. I just can't see how people justify owning one when all they do is drive where a normal car can be used. This just winds me up no end but I'll try my hardest not to get into that debate!
Hello and thanks for having me.

You could probably run your car on vodka, thereby staying on-topic whilst breaking one of your rules. You should have thought more carefully about this.

Cars cost a fortune to run.
I'm with you Larry I'm more than fed up with off-topic innuendo.

Well, when I had a car before I was paying stupid money for the insurance, and now I've got those three points on my licence, there goes the premium again ...
