Holophonics were used on the Final Cut; this demo shows what is possible using 2 speakers, best listened to on headphones, but quite effective if you are positioned centrally to your speakers.

great puns debs i must say!!! I really have to hand it to enigma there! such a great find! i was a little creeped out at first, but on the otherhand i was looking for when a solution to a more advanced panning technique that could equal dolby 5.1 to come out! *claps*
