TOPIC: Scariest Movie?

Scariest Movie? 5 years, 7 months ago #1

I posting in the movie thread go me thinking. What horror/thriller scared you the most?

Different movies have scared me at different stages in life.

The one that haunts me is a movie whose name I don't recall.  It was a British sci-fi horror flick from the 60's.  The Tube lines in London were being extended and the workers found a haunted spaceship (but thought it was a bomb).

Spooked the hell out of me as a young teenager when I saw it on TV.

That would be 'Quatermass and the Pit'. I seem to recall it scaring me too, before I got older and cynical! )

Another film that was scary for me was 'Alien'

alien? they were plastic haha! sorry there andy didnt find that scary!
But I am one for psychological thrillers, not knowing who or what is killing people or what not, a film that plays with minds rather than blood blood blood.
Saw is a series thats scared me, as you do not know who or what jigsaw is, and even the latter ones he is an old man who plays with people and they HAVE to play. so psychopathically clever.
Villains that have terrified me the most are Jigsaw and Leatherface, because you do not know what they are until the last moment and they are scary!
Guitar playing, Gilmour loving, psychological, philosophical individual

I thought Saw was a great idea which they could have done better with, I enjoyed it but the twist rather spoilt it for me as it became rather implausible. Still, it is worth a viewing  . - a similar concept to 'Cube'

I think there are 3 types of scares, :-
the spooky ones where you see what is happening and it is rather un-nerving (the twins in The Shining)  >
the uncomfortable ones which usually involve pain or gore (Leatherface hitting someone with a lump hammer, someone in sheer panic as they realise they are trapped in a nasty situation.  :G)
The suspense - these usually set the scene, and can be very creepy if watched under the right conditions.

Often a suspense scene is followed by what I dont consider to be a genuine scare - a 'jump'.  - I didn't find the Descent scary.

I've already mentioned 'Ju-On:The Grudge' (in a previous thread), which I watched last night in a darkened room listening via headphones, I found that to be very creepy.
I also rate :-
The Shining,
The Exorcist,
Texas Chainsaw Massacre
The Thing (just pure paranoia and suspense, anything goes).

and who can forget the kid floating up to the window and tapping on the glass in 'Salems Lot'
