For all you audiophiles and tech savvy types ..

Can anyone recommend or point me in the direction of some free, simple to use music editing software please? Basically all I want to do is edit music tracks to the bits or pieces I want , save it to my music then be able to transfer it onto my phone.

I've just done it on iTunes and that hasn't worked, regardless of the edited stop & start times it just lumps the whole file on as before, so any help given is greatly appreciated.  ;D

I haven't directly tried this one, but it may do the job:

I use iTunes,
set the start and stop times - remember that you can use fractions of a second to get it perfect.
In 'edit/preferences/advanced/importing' set the import options to mp3 (or whatever the phone can take).
then right click on the track and select 'convert selection to mp3'

this will create a new file of the desired type, just containing the selected section of the track.
The file will sit in the folder with all your other iTunes library music.

Remember to set the import preferences back to what you usually use (I use AAC), and reset the start/stop times on the original track back to normal.

I have the following on my phone :-

Clocks from Time = ring tone (very noisy)
ping from Echoes = text message
4 note phrase from shine on (just after the intro section) = alternate text message.

PM me if you are stuck.
