Had to order a new cooling fan for my laptop recently, the only place I could find one was in the USA, $25 plus P & P didn't seem too bad. I'd already had the thing to bits and it was so easy to remove the old and very noisy fan, so replacing was going to be just as simple.

Problem was that the P & P did not show up on the bill until the item was paid for, ?900 laptop sitting here doing nothing I thought oh well. :-[

I got the bill via E-Mail today and they have charged me, wait for it, $43 P & P :o for a bloody fan that is about 2 inches across and weighs next to nothing, and is now stuck at East Midlands Airport and has been there 2 days now, the bloody thing crossed America in 2 days and then gets stuck 10 miles away >:(

I know your going to say daft bugger, but this was the ONLY place I could lay my hands on one of these fans, I scratched around the net for around 2 hours and got nothing in the UK, the laptop is made by E-Machines and is built in the USA. I refuse to pay the silly rates to have the thing fixed by so called PC experts, I've built many PC's so not a problem. ;)

Would a generic fan not have done the same job and for much cheaper? It did me when my cooling fan went !

Mommapink,I did look round for a generic fan, but it would seem that this particular fan, that is built into the CPU heat sink is a special size, made by a company called Sunon, it's as rare as rocking horse droppings, remember we are talking about a laptop here. I could have brought the whole CPU heat sink complete with fan from a company here in the UK but they wanted ?80 for it plus P & P, they would not sell just the fan. >

Desktop cooling fans are ten a penny and you can get them anywhere.

This fan has cost ?38 total(after currency conversion), so I'd suppose its not that bad after all.

Ok Fossil, ill carry a small tank of water around with my laptop, get some piping from B&Q and plumb it in, you never know it might start a new craze ;D ;D
