I rent DVD's via the post, so when I received a DVD a couple of weeks ago that was scratched and would not play I reported it to my rental company and posted it straight back to them that night, only for Royal Mail to loose the dam thing in the post.  >

The rental company now want to charge me ?15 for this DVD that was knackered anyway, and they will charge my credit card WITHOUT my aurhorization , I have 2 witnesses that saw me post this DVD, but have no proof of postage.

Seems like I should have looked closer at the small print, but I'm a little pi55ed off about having to pay for a DVD that was not playable in the first place >

Out of interest, who was the the DVD rental company? you should name and shame them.

I've thought about these schemes once or twice, but in all honesty have a fairly decent DVD collection of my own now with many still unwatched, I'd maybe consider renting locally again if and when HD DVD takes off and players are more affordable.

Royal Mail are getting bad, had a couple of supposed low value items lost in the post that were sent to me on Ebay deals, got refunds from the seller though.

The name of the company is, well how can I put it - A VERY large river in South America beginning with A and ending in N,  been renting from them since they started the scheme and had no problem until now. >

I rent DVDs  before I buy, don't want to spend hard earned cash on crap movies.

I thought they were a reputable company too!

I'd moan and whine to them in a polite but positive manner, I know its only ?15 but stuff like that grates me.

What about the Jersey company P--y? are they into the rental market yet, bought most of my DVD's from them well as other stuff in recent times and never a problem.

PS: Do we need to disguise the names of these company's? I know some sites forbid competition, but I cant see how naming these company's hurts this site?

I feel very sorry for you but as your post says "read the small print". I have had a lot of dealings with Amazon and always found them easy to get on with and they have everthing covered. Provided you follow their returns policy correctly you will not have any problems. Your dispute is with Royal Mail but I would still contact Amazon and discuss it with them though.
Are we nearly there yet?

On the subject of Royal Mail... about a month ago I ordered a CD boxed set from one of Amazon's overseas marketplace sellers.  The final delivery date came and went, and I duly fired off an email to the seller asking where the heck my already debited package was.  They replied saying they'd sent it, sorry but... and all that  I duly cursed all carriers I could think of.

Two evenings later I popped out of the front door late on to put my (new, ?27.00, gaaahhhh) wheelie bin out for next day's rubbish collection.  Underneath it was the expected package.  No card had been put through my letterbox to explain where the package had been stashed, no date on the wrapping indicated when it might have been delivered - it could have been sitting there for anything up to 6 days, since I'd last returned the wheelie to its usual position.  The odds were that it actually had arrived before the final delivery date.

So I had to send an embarrassed and apologetic email off to the seller, and phone up the local mail sorting office next day to put a rocket up them.  I hope they did what they said they would, checked who'd been delivering along that route that week and put a rocket up them, but, call me cynical, somehow I have a feeling that the matter went no further.

Needless to say, my faith in the Royal Mail hasn't increased at all lately.
